Anyone see our pre-season game. ...so Carrick stays on the whole game and and we still loose to a very average team (that a World Class player like Carrick should dominate)....but hey, Im sure its everyone else's fault - they should of given Carrick more protection or made better runs or gave him the ball only when he had space. Im sure its Ando or Cleverly's fault...

And RvP wasnt there just to note...so when he comes back and we actually look like some kind of quality and actually score...we can praise Carrick for that.....but cant fault him for this loss that he played for 90min...oh no!

Loosing out on Thiago and Strootman....MF gonna suck again

Your point was that Carrick passes sideways and backwards. How did RvP even manage to get the ball if this were the case?

And have you ever seen a team score a plethora of goals, yet concede very few, except Mourinho's first Chelsea team and Pep's Barca? It's very common for teams to score a lot and concede a considerable amount- Spurs have been doing it for years. Your team is always more vulnerable when you are on the attack.

Not to mention the constantly rotating centre back partnership, a new, young goalie finding himself and a one man midfield, and naturally you will concede a lot. Whether they count, is another matter.

You were dominated because you had no decent midfield partner for Carrick, not because of him. This has been going on for years, so is hardly his fault that United have just not added qualitative depth in that area.

So... you blame a single individual in a team game for a loss? Why not blame the attack for not scoring? Why not blame the defence? Why blame Carrick alone?

So how does RvP transform your one man midfield into a better class? Without support for Carrick, or a player intelligent enough to play off his balls, you will struggle to score. Hence why any loss of RvP next season will be huge.

Don't bother. Some people don't understand football, like blaming Carrick for a defeat where 9 first team players were out. You can't argue against someone like that.

And it's only pre-season- who cares if you win or lose. Ancelotti had a rotten (results-wise) pre-season in his first season at Chelsea, yet still won the double with a goal-scoring record to boot...

EDIT: Knew I had it wrong... ok, it was the season after. But still- it's pre-season, who cares what the results are...
 
I get the concept other players also being on the pitch - but it seems that Carrick is the only one from the others that cant put a foot wrong even when he does so, so regularly. By all means keep him as a squad player and for the easier teams that he can actually look decent against, buts lets look at getting some strenght back into that MF and compete with the likes of Barca and Bayern and the like...or heaven forbid, we actually ask Carrick to run and do some work (the interceptor role is really old now)

I would prefer that we actually look at improving our MF and it would start with us not shielding one player from being farily assessed (one minute ishe is a holding MF, then he is creative, then he is there for his long range, then his partners arent good enough, then he does all the work hence why he didnt perform, then the formation didnt suit him - just wish that it could actually come out that he really isnt up to standard to be our regular main MF man).

Shield? How many times have we blasted Carrick for not making that tackle and leading to the goal? How many times have you blasted Carrick for ANY goal that the opposition scores against us?

We've had our fair share of complaints when he was playing badly but to you every time the opponent scores against us it's directly Carrick's fault. Every time United loses or draws you blame Carrick for not pushing further up field or not creating that killer pass for RVP to score...

To you Carrick is the problem in our Midfield - yet when SAF does not play him we leak in more goals - stats do not lie.

We show you stats you tell us Stats means nothing, we show you videos of the reason why we lost, but you think it's still Carrick's fault.

Well, there's me. And SAF. The rest of the United players who voted him player of the season. The rest of the EPL who voted him one of the best players of the season. The media, who have showered him with plaudits for his role, including Neville, considered one of the best pundits in England at the moment.

But yeah "only me".

This. This is exactly what shows how little you understand about that facet of the game. I'm not trying to insult you, but if you can't see what he does, or how well he does it, you don't understand a simple part of the game.
 
Carrick is over-rated .

He does a job for the team....somewhat...... he will never hold his own as a regular game-changer. He just does not have the talent.

If him passing sideways and making 50/50 tackles whilst the team wins ....I suppose most Utd fans will take that.

The same thing was said about Lucas, and he was Liverpool's player of the season not too long ago. Just for the sake of comparison.

United have no trouble scoring goals with Carrick "passing sideways and backwards". He really is one of the most underappreciated players ever.

Lucas just got back into team after horrific injury, whilst RVP was clearly Utds best player by a mile. He single handedly won so many games at the start of the season......


everybody has their own opinion on MC I suppose ....

The effects of his long layoff were keenly felt- Liverpool only won one of their first five games remember...

RvP was their top scorer, but he was hardly their best player IMO. Look at the way Carrick circulates the ball forward, whilst shielding his defence. Highly unappreciated.
