Nope, not true. United already had a pre contract agreement with Sporting for Ronaldo. They would have still got him, just maybe a year later. Still my point remains, United have missed out on top players before the Glazers arrived.

Another top player United missed out on long before the Glazers was Shearer, i just remembered that now.
And Gascoigne. United also passed on players like Zidane.
Yeah the difference is that it used to happen occasionally vs happens all the time.
Compare United's transfer business before vs after and tell me there's not a difference.
Transfer business wasn't as widely reported on, or discussed as often.
Are you really suggesting there hasn't been a change?

Not like players have reneged on pre-contracts before... but I don't think that you lost out in not getting Ronaldinho, at least not fundamentally. He could have become another Kleberson after all...

As Randir says, lots more press today than in the past. Its hard to say if its more or less though as there is just so much speculation on transfers in the media. Ultimately i view it on success, has United been less successful under the Glazers than previously. I would say no.
Except he didnt become another Kleberson, as evidenced by his performances for Barcelona. He was head and shoulders above the rest of the world during that time period.

Yes, for Barcelona though... Look at Forlan. Didn't do too well at United, but was brilliant in Spain and Italy.
I didn't say that. But what are you saying? That players don't want to come to us since the Glazers took over, or that they haven't spent enough?
Or Veron. But I think Ronaldinho would've been a star wherever he went. Different quality.
The following:
- we do not have the financial clout to compete at the top level anymore
- we are not the drawcard we used to be
- we are horribly inept at closing transfer deals
I don't know about that. United just paid 24m for a 29 year old. DdG was one of the most expensive goalies ever - 22 years old. Bought Berba for close to 30m. Young was 18m. Jones 17m. Kagawa from 12-15m. They moved in early on Hernandez and we managed to get him cheap. I'd say that was clever.
Except for Young, those are all talented footballers.
You may be right to a certain point, but just because United don't pay 40-80m for a player doesn't mean that they're skint.
United don't pay the premium that City and Chelsea do on wages very often. That, coupled with England's high tax bracket, means that players will often go to the club offering the most. Doesn't always have to do with football, or the club itself, just what they're often.
Also, where would you want to live? Sunny Spain or drab, wet Manchester? Barcelona is a paradise compared.
I'm not sure about this. How many players that United have confirmed they're interested in have they not closed? Nasri? Sneijder? Thiago now maybe? Apart from that? A lot of the time United don't say who they're monitoring, and a lot of the media speculation is rubbish.

Well lets think about this logically, why after one day? Why even send him out, if they are looking to sell him. Sorry but i cant see it, 1+1=3 at this moment.
