And it isn't over-exaggerated. Have you not seen how the midfield has been repeatedly overrun and how soft it has looked at times in the past? For goodness sake, Fergie had to persuade Scholes to come back to bolster the middle. As good as Carrick has been for them, Fergie never replaced Keane and Scholes. Even under Fergie, Cleverley regressed and Anderson has never stepped up. Fergie misused Kagawa. Welbeck was, in hindsight, misused as well. Young, well, he's been atrocious for a while now, even under Fergie. Nani could not find consistency under the legendary boss. Not all of the players struggling now are due to Moyes. Some had been in decline or not very good under Fergie.

United also leaked a lot of goals last season, so the defensive frailties seen under Moyes are nothing new either.

Could they play better? Yes. Could they match this City? No.

I am reminded of a quote that John Barnes made when Fergie announced his retirement:

“If the Manchester United players don’t do as well as they have done this year and in previous years, it will be no reflection on the new manager,” Barnes said. “It will be a reflection on them. If you are going to do what you have done under Sir Alex Ferguson, why should that change?"

I agree with this post now, an improvement from Moyes and an investment in the squad is whats needed.

Thats actually a poor assessment of the squad, i dont think the writer watches too many United games.
 
Writer is pretty much spot on. Take off the blinkers. Rooney has been carrying the team this year... RVP last year.


Its about time that players take more responsibility for the way the team performs...most of them have been well below par for a while, Fergie just had a way to get the most out of them. Moyes needs to do something fast before its too late.....


...or he will be unemployed soon.

Lol spot on and DailyMail dont go together, lets point a few things out though.

Buttner-This rustiness showed in the defeat by Swansea, his sixth start of the season, when his crossing was sub-standard to say the least.

Rubbish, Buttner has been trash but the one good thing hes done this season was cross well against Swansea.

Valencia-His crossing has got better and he is one of the few who can reliably take on and storm past an opponent.

Lol, i think Valencia must have one of the worst cross completion rates in the league.

These are just two points im picking out,there are plenty more. So whilst the general theme about Rooney carrying us might be correct (something someone with an IQ of about 70 can figure out), his in depth analysis is crap and i doubt he watches many United games.

I watched that Swansea game and Buttner's crossing was excellent.

Yeah very good crossing, was hoping Moyes might try play him out on the left wing and put Januzaj on the right.

Bar one mistake whilst playing right back against Swansea Fletcher has been ok. You could maybe put that mistake down to lack of fitness and playing in the wrong position. 6 is probably too high though considering hes only just come back.
 
Former Premier League referee Graham Poll admits he used to feel "a sense of relief" when Man United played well in and won games he officiated.

Writing in his Daily Mail column, Poll said:

"I would concede there was a sense of relief when United played well and won, particularly at Old Trafford.

"I knew if they didn't win there was every chance of seeing and, more importantly, hearing Ferguson and reading his comments about me in the papers the next day.

"All referees knew that Fergie's standing in the game - and the fact that he was at the biggest club - meant that when he unleashed the hairdryer on a referee there were inevitable headlines."

Poll also suggested David Moyes has to accept he cannot enjoy anything like the same intimidating effect he believes Sir Alex Ferguson enjoyed for many years.

"I fear another defeat for Moyes," he said.

"[Moyes] must accept that he does not have the same intimidating presence as his predecessor had."
