Interview with Mata

Welcome to United. How does it feel to be a Man United player?
Thank you. It's a very happy day. United is an amazing club, a massive club. I'm very proud to be here.

How did it feel learning that Man United were interested? I thought "whoa!", this is a team that has won a lot of leagues. It was amazing knowing that a club like Man United is interested in me.

There's so many great players who have played for United, you're now the record signing. Do you relish the pressure?

I know it's a lot of pressure but I'm confident. I think everything is going to be right because the squad is good. The fans are unbelievable. We have everything here to get success.

You were Chelsea player of the season last year. You were involved last week when Chelsea beat United. Are you surprised to have moved to United?

To be honest it was a bit surprising. I have to say, I'm grateful to Chelsea, to the owner, to the people working at the club and of course the fans. They all made me the player I am today. The last 6 months have been difficult though. I haven't played as much as I wanted to, I understand it's a team sport, and I respect that. But to be in this position now, a chance to play at United, it's great to be able to carry on playing.

On David de Gea

He was just texting me in the last 5 or 6 days, "When are you coming? When are you landing? Are you coming by helicopter or by bicycle!?". I'm happy to be here. David is a god friend, an amazing goalkeeper and a top guy.

Are you excited to link up with van Persie, Rooney, Januzaj?

I'm always trying to assist and be creative. It's going to be amazing to play with those players, van Persie, Rooney, Adnan, Chicharito, Valencia. They're amazing players.

What's your best position?

Playing! (laughs) To smell the turf. I can play in 3 positions behind the strikers. I can play on the left, on the right, behind the striker. But it doesn't matter, I can play wherever.

You've won a lot of trophies and you're only in your mid 20s. What do you want to achieve next?

To win the Premier League. It's a special trophy for any player in England. It would be amazing and with this club you can achieve it. They're used to winning the league here and I'll try my best to make that happen. I'm still young and I've been lucky so far but I want to win more.

The manager is keen to get you started against Cardiff. Are you looking forward to running out at Old Trafford?

Old Trafford is unbelievable. I've been here 2, 3, 4 times always with rivals. But now I have a chance to play here at home. The fans here are incredible.

So next up, no more Coentrao, Shaw is the new target. Plus Rooney new contract.

So, apparently, Moyes has seemingly completed your transfer activity for the period:

Moyes not expecting further January deals

David Moyes says Juan Mata is likely to be the only new arrival at Manchester United in January, despite working hard to add to his squad.
Mata completed his club-record £37.1 million move from Chelsea on Saturday and Moyes believes that the signing of the Spain playmaker is the first step in his bid to build a side in his own image.

Southampton defender Luke Shaw and Newcastle midfielder Yohan Cabaye are just two of the many players who have also been linked with a move to Old Trafford this month, but Moyes does not expect any further additions before the transfer window closes.

However, the Scot is keen to continue strengthening the squad he inherited from Alex Ferguson, although he admitted that it would more likely be at the end of the season.

"I don't think we'll have any more in January," the United boss told the club's official website after confirming the Mata deal.

"I'm still working on it and looking to do things – we know exactly what we'd like to do and if it changes in the last week, which sometimes it can do, then we'll try.

"I hope it will be the first of some new signings that will arrive, but more likely in the summer."
United have struggled in the Premier League this season and are 14 points adrift of leaders Arsenal after seven defeats in their opening 22 games.

Mata is the first piece of the jigsaw for Moyes, and he has vowed to put a side together that is capable of moving them back up the table and delivering the style of football the club's fans have become accustomed to.
"I want to build an exciting team, that's always the way I've wanted my football to be played and I've not known it any other way," he added.

"I want to win and give the supporters something to shout about because I've not done that often enough.
"What I will say is that this is the first of many more to come in time. I'm looking forward to Juan being the start of it."
