Pretty flawed if you consider when lots of those purchases were made.

I think that in itself is the problem- that a few of those players are well past their prime. It doesn't change how much they cost, though.

Anyway- I'd forgotten how much you paid for Phil Jones. Wowza.

Hes got a "J" not a "Z" at the start of his name :p

Well yes and no, considering the amount of years most of those players have given the club it becomes a pointless comparison, like Rio Ferdinand for 30 million has been an absolute bargain over his 10/11 years at United. Phil Jones being English and 19 when United bought him isnt bad at all either, he has a big future ahead of him.

Ah, thanks! For some reason I couldn't see what was wrong with that...

True, it's more a stat aimed to further attack David Moyes and co.

The Jones fee just reminded me how much English talent costs, and that he still hasn't developed into a defined player yet. I remember the Blackburn game he had that brought him to prominence- where he had Drogba in his pocket the entire match. Haven't seen much of that potential since.

Unfortunately with Jones, injuries and consistent game time at CB have disturbed his progress. Needs to stop playing in CM and get 30+ games at CB next season.

Difference between Moyes and Martinez is that Everton have top players compared to Uniteds few top players.
Last season RVP won the league almost by himself, now with his injuries, the true quality of the squad shows.

How many United players have the United supporters have in their fantasy league team? Is it because of performance or quality?

Nonsense.

Even with Rvp, United have been average.

Selection of fantasy football league are you being serious? That game isnt exactly set up to truly monitor the best players, how many points do players get for interceptions or tackles or important passes etc. Fantasy fooball is based on goals, assists and clean sheets. Clearly there is more to the game than that.

The problems faced by Man Utd fans is
common to all groups of people who mistake
sport for religion and sportsmen as gods .
Football, as with most sport , was a way of
having a relaxing few hours away from the
troubles and hardships of life. Football fans,
with the help of greedy clubs, have made the
club their actual life. Very dangerous. To see
grown men, and they are grown men,
screaming abuse at Ferguson , Moyes and
young players , is proof that the fans have lost
touch with reality and have a dangerous and
unreal sense of entitlement. We sometimes
think our club has intrinsic qualities that
make it special. They don't. They are
businesses that make good and bad
decisions , and with football clubs being only
just over a century in age, they are specks in
the history of mankind. Take the Chosen One
Sign down, splash your face with cold water
and next time you go to the stadium , ignore
the Saint like statues, the noble quotes and
religious icons and remember you are
watching ....a football match... and not
paying obeisance to the gods. You might
actually enjoy the day and live longer

Closest he's been this season was the 1-0 win over Arsenal, in which nobody could tell if Ozil was on the pitch or not. That was when Ozil was still up for it and not the dik-bek he's been recently

I'd also look at the total value of players each club can select. United's starting XI may have cost more, but in total City's current first-team squad (excluding players on loan) was bought for £361,050,000 while United's first-team squad (excluding players out on loan) was bought for £287,000,000. Also note, 10 of City's first-teamers cost 20 million or more, only 5 of United's players exceeded that mark.

And as Unhappy pointed out, some of the more expensive buys (Rooney, Ferdinand, Carrick) have already more than paid for their services and have been with the club for some time.

Yeah, the more i think of it the more i realise it tells us nothing. How many times did City spend 10/15/30 million on players only to discard them before they found the right one.

According to widespread reports in Friday's national newspapers, a group of United supporters has paid for a
plane to fly over Old Trafford on Saturday trailing an anti-Moyes message. The message will read 'Wrong One: Moyes Out' in answer to 'The Chosen One' banner which continues to fly inside the stadium despite heavy home defeats to rivals Liverpool and Manchester City in the past month. Stewards have recently been deployed to guard the banner, which references the fact Moyes was hand-picked for the job by Sir Alex Ferguson. United are already guaranteed their lowest Premier League points total and host Aston Villa on Saturday in seventh place, 18 points behind leaders Chelsea less than a year after winning the title. Moyes can expect more criticism if Villa leave with anything, but the visitors' manager Paul Lambert has called the planned plane stunt "extreme". He said: "I think some of the criticism is way over the top, I really do. If you are talking about flying an aeroplane over the stadium with a message to say you are not wanted, it is a bit extreme. "I think the magnitude of the job is huge. Only David can truly tell you about that, but from the outside looking in, it is a massive, massive job. "It is not as if he is standing out there and thinking 'things are not going well, but I still feel good'. He is human like everybody else and whenq you get that level of criticism it would not be nice." Moyes' pre-match press conference is scheduled for 1.30pm this afternoon, when he is expected to face questions about the protest and United's poor form.
