Official NOKIA N8 thread

You'll need to set your widgets to offline mode on one of the home screens. "Options" -> "Widgets to offline mode".

Well there is also a battery saving option.. Like when your phone is almost out of battery it asks you if you want to use the saving battery option.. You can actually leave it on permanently then battery last more than a few days.. (If you're not always on your phone.. )

Also.. Change your theme to a lighter colour.. Not a dark one.. Apparently it used more battery when using a dark theme..

Got my N8 upgrade as a Christmas present... Happy with it so far!! Still trying to get used to the touch screen... Thats taking a while since I'm so used to buttons...
The camera on the phone is awesome as expected...
I'm just worried bout the battery because I can't seem to get more than a days usage out of it before it dies on me... I charged fully before use and completely discharged and recharged it 3 times already but it still only lasts just short of a day... Anyone else having these troubles?

Yeah.. at first.. But not after what I did (in the previous post.. )

Oh and there is a program on OVI called battery something.. Monitor or something.. get that.. it's pretty good.. All it does is tells you how much batter is left.. and what uses most of your battery.. (Download it.. It's free.. )

A dslr in unexperienced hands will take a worse picture than a point and shoot. Its a stupid comparison.
The camera is very good on this phone though, its about the only thing it has going for it though.

Technically speaking yes.. but remember there is also direct HDMI out put with sound..

And that Bluetooth mouse and keyboard thing that's just awesome!

Actually I tried plugging my USB keyboard in (Logitech) and it didn't pick it up.. mm.. Maybe it's only old ones or ones that doesn't use too much power :(

instead of starting ANOTHER N8 thread, i thought i will post here :)

A mod to the N8 camera has been released that removes compression of the images for still camera & provides continous auto-focus & bumps up the framerate to 30 fps.
see here : http://www.gsmarena.com/nokia_n8_ge...video_with_continuous_autofocus-news-1997.php

difficult to actually see the difference in the samples of stills (bumps up the image size from 2.5 to 11.5 MB!)

im sure the video improvements are more visible.

I dont' know how to get this mod onto my phone.. T.T help..

The mod in the link I sent you has this mod in it as well I think and it's really easy to install. Just get the file onto your phone via bluetooth from your pc, via usb using usb-on-the-go, using the usb cable connected to your pc, via wifi using dukto, you decide. Then run the file from the file manager on your phone and then tick the mods you want to install (descriptions of the various mods in the forum post).

If you decide to uninstall you just uninstall the same way you would any other app.

So it does NO HARM to your phone or anything?

Just incase :)

I tried to run it.. but it says the certification error.. contact application creator or something like that..

How to do over come that?

Correction..

I actually just plugged in another Keyboard..

WIRELESS Microsoft mouse and keyboard.. and it WORKED!!!

N8 is really something!!!

I'm so happy with mine, have it for 2 months now. Just one thing I want to know, if I'm in gmail app, and want to quickly delete or archive messages using the shortcuts, then I need a "keypad". Otherwise I must use the long route do do this. Is there a way to get the keypad on when you want?

Not making any promises... lol :D
I only installed the first 3 mods cause thats all I was really interested in. Nervous about the autofocus because in the video in the link you posted it sounds weird when the camera auto focuses, like a grinding sound

You need to sign the file first. If you don't know how to do this let me know...

Oh.. so it's worked fine?

mm.. well I dont' know how to do the signing thing..

help thanks..

Yep the mods I installed all work great, the landscape dialer comes in handy and the kinetic scrolling improvement is very noticeable in long lists like contacts, messages, songs, etc...

I made a tutorial here. Hope that helps...

what's the best deal for nokia n8 now? I'm kinda disappointed with new vodacom deals...

Anyone else with strange issue? When I attached my N8 to my laptop this morning via the cable, it loaded drivers - odd, because that happened when I first connected, why now again?

I noticed that the icon in Ovi Suite of the N8 bottom left which was black in outline before was now blue in outline.

And then two major hassles: it could not find the music on my phone - said there is no music loaded. And the option under Tools > connect to the internet was not operational. Could not link to the internet. However, I could link to the internet via bluetooth, but it could still not find my phone.

Tried "repairing" ovi suite, did not help. Tried uninstalling cable drivers and reinstalling, did not help. Now have uninstalled ovi suite and downloading again.

Does anyone have the problem where in the camera you go options > settings, and then the camera app closes and you're back at the home screen? :-/

EDIT:
I fixed the problem so ignore the above ^^^^

I'm having a problem where I cannot download any music form the Ovi store via my phone or the pc. Downloads in the download queue fail straight away. It's not an internet problem because the internet works fine and I can listen to the 30 sec preview of a song but I can't download it...
I'm hoping Nokia gives us this lost downloading time back because our unlimited music downloads are only for a limited time...

Anyone else having this problem?

Use the newest OVI version which combine Nokia Music and Ovi. Sometimes mine fail but downloaded a lot last night no problemo.
