Official NOKIA N8 thread

Hey, anyone know where i can get a DVB-H headset for the N8? they seem to be around R500 which is a bit on the high side.

I would like to upgrade to this phone but not sure how the Navigation through OVI works. The spec sheet claims it's all free but how free exactly?
You still connect through the internet don't you? Then that cost will be added to your bill?
Can anyone pls explain this to me. thx
The navigation service is free of charge, but any thing which involves you connecting to the internet such as traffic updates, map updates, voice downloads etc. is charged to you.

o nice! Now when you need the navigator on a trip, does it download the map each time or can you pre-load it on your phone?
The map is pre-loaded, I guess the only time you'll need to download a new map is when going to place which was recently added to the online map but you have a different version.
Oh yeah, you'll also connect to the internet if your using the satellite view (think Google maps realistic view)

I will be joining your clan (N8 clan that is) next week. I'm on a look out for a used/second hand N8, if any of you want to off-load (your N8, willing to part with under R2k) give me a shout.

That makes sense. This means I don't have to buy a Garmin/TomTom then. Yippee!! Will get N8 next month -can't wait. I'm so ghappy now, I wanna do the dance of joy!!!! THANX tsume !
to save costs if you have a pc and internet acess (ADSL etc) you can download the entire RSA map and voice navigation (its about 50-100Megs which on 3g rates is R100 -R200+ :( ) on your PC with the OVI suite and install it on the phone, then on the OVI maps program on the phone turn the internet conetion to offline so it doesnt try and download on the go . I use mines this way and it works great, did a test with my buddies in car garmin and they worked exactly the same. The cool thing my N8 came with a car charger in the box and i use it as a GPS and i love it!
So no on your opther question not planing of offloading it anytime soon :D

Its features like these that made me forgo my Galaxy S and even consider the N8.
I'll give it a try next week.
Thanks for sharing.

Seems like SA only has the black and silver hey..

Otherwise you have to go to Nokia care centre to change the cover for you.. (but that's additional cost :( )

Do u know how much? I will gladly pay to not be looking at this Silver ***** all day....

The Anna update has been leaked. Details can be found here on how to flash your phone. There's also a recovery procedure there in case you brick it :D

Anything you really like about Anna? I couldn't see any changes that I really deemed worthwhile for myself.

Got my N8 about 2 weeks ago - I really like it. I'm not really a heavy camera user, but I like the rest of the phone a lot as well. R90 per month with a R300 pay in on 8ta, much cheaper than any of the other top smart phones out there.

It's a lot quicker than PR1.2, and I'm really looking forward to the portrait keyboard which should have been standard on the phone. Apart from that, the browser seems better and the UI a lot slicker.

The portrait keyboard isn't included in the leaked release, is it? I don't like the idea of bugs in contacts on this release, but the faster UI might be worthwhile. It seems nice to be able to switch off the camera shutter sound.

Portrait keyboard is included in the leaked version :)
Wonder when the official version will be available. I don't really want to flash my phone with a unofficial release (leak). I use my N8 only for music playback though.
End of August. I'm not sure if this one is unofficial, but the official Anna firmware has shipped on the E7 already.

Played on a friends Samsung Galaxy S and much preferred the method of typing on that compared to my N8.

Did you install the hacked version or the straight version?

I haven't installed it yet, going to wait a few more days until the official release. Was just letting others know in case they couldn't wait :D

I'm becoming more curious by the day, but has thus far managed to curb my investigative side in favour of keeping it on the official firmware. I'm not sure if I'll manage to do that until the end of the month, though. :-)
