Official NOKIA N8 thread

Nothing yet...still waiting!

I'm running Belle. I'll post issues as they arise. Currently I need to apply a fix to get Java apps to work. Otherwise.... Belle is the leap in Symbian I was hoping for. :-)

Only problem is, no matter how sweet Belle looks and feels (and this sentence just reads wrong!), it doesn't solve the underlying development issues native to Symbian. One of the major prerequisites for a mobile OS these days is a well populated app store, which is somewhat lacking in Symbian. :-(

Daniedj :

How belle in general?

And about the java app thing.. What's wrong with it?

Oh yes.. just want to ask another thing..

after you updated, did you have to install all your apps again? (Including OVI store?)

I'm guessing you would because you need to do a 'dead phone flash' Maybe you keep the apps etc, if you backup and restore?

Java problem is probably because its an early beta. would wait till a newer version for those kind of issues to be sorted out

I see..

But does it mean that other apps won't work? Or just the java apps?

(EG: will Angry birds still work? )

angry birds will work. In the youtube belle preview a the guy had a whole lot of sis applications on the phone.

Has anyone update via OTA or Ovi Suite yet? I'm getting an error: "Could not connect to the service" :-(

how do you find it compared to OVI maps?
anything you don't like / like in comparison? I can't get it to show all the street names while on route..

It feels like having a Garmin in the car. On my 5800 it was a bit slow, but useable. On my N8 I haven't had any difficulties yet. Searching works well - I haven't had trouble finding streets in the vicinity. Finding POIs that are far away doesn't seem too work well - the algorithm they use to search starts around a specific spot (normally where you are) and search in increasing circles from there. But it stops after a few hundred km.

I haven't used OVI maps often. When I got my 5800 OVI navigation was still paid for, so I installed the Garmin. With the live traffic I've started trying OVI again, but not often enough yet to really compare to Garmin.

Ovi Store and all the normal n8 apps are there. There is a fix for the Java issue but Opera Mini and mobile does not work. Before it starts it dies with an error.
I'm loving Belle. It feels like I got a new phone yesterday. The UI is similair to HTC's Sense. Battery life is down.
I don't use a lot of Apps but so far every app I installed except for Opera worked fine.

(My version is 111.010.0606.13.1)

Getting the same thing. The update shows up on my phone, but it tells me to update it via PC.

I've upgraded to Anna (official on OVI). The user interface really feels faster than before. I just don't like the new default skin, the previous one looked better to me.

Woohoo it's coming down now :D Taking a while to download though (70 minutes left on a 10 Mbit line), guess everyone's rushing to get it.

I didn't go to Tools -> Software Update, I just closed Ovi Suite and reopened it. On the home screen there's a link to update your device software.

Just a note - you have to reinstall some apps such as the office apps again afterward. It is split into two separate parts, one is 27 MB and the other 29 MB. The servers seems overloaded, so I'm struggling to start the download.
