Official NOKIA N8 thread

My N8 died. Just dead: no charging light, no vibrating after the power button was pressed, no nothing. None of the reset methods work (i.e. 8 sec power button). I'll take it back to 8ta tomorrow so that they can send it in. Unfortunately I have flashed it with a pre-release of Anna (though it was on the official Anna when it died), and a few weeks ago I have spilled some tea on it. So whether they'll claim that I voided my warranty is a 50/50 - probably depends on what the fault is.

Try taking it to Nokia Care point. They might give you a quicker answer. Although the 8ta route may give you a better chance of being able to get it done through warranty because those Nokia guys are real quick in pointing towards water damage.

Have you tried holding power, menu and camera shutter button in together for 8 seconds while the phone is on charge? Worked for me a few months back. Thought the phone was bricked but this trick got me back up.

I'll try the 8ta route, as I've got an 8ta shop very close to work.

I have tried that, but no luck.

I suspect that the phone quite simply overheated. It was using GPS, 3G, the screen was switched on, and the car was quite hot inside. Googling for dead N8s, it seems as though overheating is a possible culprit. So it might be a good idea to pamper the N8 a bit as far as heat is concerned - maybe Finland is not used to SA's temperatures. :P

I had the identical problem with my N8 a few weeks back. Turns out all that was needed was a new battery! There are a couple vids on Youtube detailing the removal process. Nokia Care quoted me R600 for a new genuine battery so I ended up getting one from the UK instead for £4! Goodluck

Well, the phone is still under warranty, so if the battery is faulty they should replace it. If they claim water damage or anything funny, I'll open the phone myself and see if I can find anything. The phone's now with 8ta, will see how that goes.

Thanks for the replies!

Do you have a link to the site where you got the battery from?

1) Just enable the traffic updates, and allow your handset to use GSM, and it is all done automatically.
2) Set up Communicator is to set up the Microsoft Communicator stuff - exchange etc. Not needed if you don't use exchange etc.

N8 earpones/headset to buy?

Does anybody know where I can buy a new set of original Nokia N8 earphones/headset in Cape Town?

I'll even order them online if I have to, but can't find them anywhere.. (Well, anywhere cheaper than Expansys)

My bird kindly chewed through the cable for me!

I use different silicone pieces and they sound awesome!

I hate those! you could have bought mine! only I live in PTA, and no one would you really where second-hand(ear) in-ear headphones.

That little remote feels so cheap, and the silicon earpieces are just annoying. Sound quality's pretty good though.

If your going to be listening to music, why buy those earphones? Normal earphones work with the N8. Or is it for for making calls as well?

With different silicon buds they fit perfectly and have great sound quality, and I can use the hands-free while driving and skip/pause music ..volume etc...

Agreed! Those earphones, when using them you hear notes that you CAN'T hear with other earphones! It takes music to another level.. :D

It's also good to prevent people from shouting at you :D IMO

I've made a post on NokiaBetaLabs requesting Nokia to support a proper Remote Desktop Client (RDP) for S^3 (ie. Nokia N8).
Please go have a look/leave a comment/star my post/"sign the petition" if you agreed.

I suggested Nokia support Telexy SymRDP in order for Telexy to update their current S60v5 version to S^3.
Nokia alliance with Microsoft should put them in a very strong position to support it.
