Official PS3 Discussion/News Thread - No bashing!!

If you have the ps3 connected to a router with NAS would the ps3 be able to play back the content usually(transcoding) with the pc being off and not running Tversity or Ps3media.org programs?

I use PS3 Media Server and find that streaming HD content is a real bitch with constant stuttering.

Is this due to my router, TP Link (forget the model) or my laptop?

Any way to fix this?

Playstation 3 compatibility

Hi all,

I dont know if this is the right place to be asking this,

But is a Playstation 3 from Dubai compatible in South Africa?

Ja, that's true all ps3 games are Region Free. It's just downloadable content that's region locked. You also won't be covered by a warranty if it comes from Dubai.

Don't watch it 'live'. Copy it to the PS3's hard drive and then watch it

Red Dead Redemption Multi Player issues

Hi there every1

I've recently started playing RDR online and so far have seen only 3 other players in the co-op mode. I know the the game is out for quite some time but i honestly cant be one of three sad people in the world playing it???:wtf:

A friend of mine recently got the game, we invite each other to play but it constantly gives an error saying we either have a connection problem or the game session no longer exits.

Ive searched other forums, and the the posts say RDR was updated almost a year ago.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Hi everyone,

Let me first start off by saying that I am not a serious gamer by any means! :)
I recently got myself a Onkyo HT-S5405 which supports Dolby TrueHD as well as DTS HD and a million other formats.

What I am wanting to know is how to I set up the audio settings on my PS3 so that I can get the best possible audio when watchin a Blu ray or playing a PS3 game??

Thanks in advance!

Maybe someone can help.

The PS3 can only see FAT formatted drives, not NTFS. How can I get large movies, 4GB and up, on my PS3 to watch them? And can the PS3 playback .mkv files?

From PS3 Manual page

You just connect via an HDMi cable and once conected, your PS3 will ask to automatically detect what your AMP is capable of.

It really is simple :)

For 4GB+ files, you have to stream the files to your PS3 using either

Tversity or PS3 MediaServer

Recommended connection is LAN cable from Router > PS3

As for MKV files, natively it does not support it unless you Jailbreak it using Custom Firmware (CFW) but that is beyond what can be discussed on the forum :p.

Is the PS3 backwards compatible with both PS2 And PS1 games, just PS2 or neither?

Early 80gig and 60gig models were backwards compatible. However, this function was removed. However, and i stand to be corrected, PS1 and PS2 games downloaded off PSN will play on PS3.

The latest PS3s (Slim models) can still play PS1 games. The ability to play PS2 games was removed.

The multiplayer issue on RDR has never been fixed. I played with my brother on Xbox Live and we had the same issue. Sometimes we could connect, but we gave up.

I saw on ign.com that the price of the ps3 was reduced by $50. anybody know when this will effect us and by how much. i need a ps3 asap
