Upcoming PS3 Firmware (v2.60) Update

Hi, everyone, we have a system software updates for PS3 coming soon, and I wanted to provide you with a sneak peak at the details.

The PS3 firmware update (v2.60) is designed primarily to enhance the system’s media capabilities. The key feature is a new Photo Gallery application, which delivers a suite of tools for sorting through and displaying your digital photo collection. Digital pictures can be organized in groups according to various criteria, including the camera used to take the photos, the event date and time, colors in the photos, as well as the number, ages, or facial expressions of the people pictured. You can also create slideshows set to music and build photo playlists with an easy-to-use interface. The Photo Gallery application will need to be installed separately from the XMB after you update your PS3’s firmware. To install the Photo Gallery application, go to the Photo section on the XMB, select Photo Gallery and press the X button.

The 2.60 update also includes:

Guest access to PlayStation Store – This enables non-PlayStation Network members to browse through the storefront to check out the latest games, demos, videos, etc.
DivX 3.11 support – Videos in this format can now be played on PS3.

Some nice finds. Wouldnt mind to see Mass Effect on the PS3.

And another....bloody...firmware...upgrade. :(

yah this firmware upgrade aint even that great but its not a mandatory one. I logged in this morning and it just said update available. Could still do other things so it aint all that bad

Cool, if it's not mandatory then it's all good. Solidus, have you read the article that FFXIII will only be available in western countries after April 2010? I was so hoping we'd see that game in time for the December holidays '09.

yah i read it, pretty cheesed off about it. This game is in development for too long, reports say we shouldn't "blame" M$. But its solely their fault, they paid to have it released the same time as the ps3 version. I see now why Tetsuya Nomura didn't want it to go multi-plat. I mean I have no problem with it going multi-plat but now we have to suffer cause we have to wait for the M$ port  I might not even get to play it cause I'll be married that time and right now I don't see her agreeing with me giving my life to an RPG

Congrats dude! You'll have to work that as a clause into the marriage contract. If that doesn;t work, compromise.
It took a while, but my wife has now accepted that i love gaming, always have, always will. You should be able to come to some sort of understanding.;)And FFXIII is just one of those games that you cannot miss.

Thanks man, I'm sure I can get my way yes but still, I was hoping for non stop gaming before I get married. At least there's other great exclusives I'm getting before them, hoping we see a WKC release before the year is out. Whose getting Resi 5? I'm a long time fan and really intrigued by this co-op function. Heard demo is coming the 2nd February can't wait for this one.

Resi 5 is a must - definitely getting that. Feb is Killzone month while March will be Resi 5.
Then there are stuff like Sacred 2 that i'd also like to pick up in Feb/March. When's SFIV releasing?

Heard SFIV is in march as well so looks like we won't be eating for most the year, hahaha. Killzone 2 is gonna be sick online :)

Congratulations and Salutations Solidus to you and future Mrs Solidus. You could always get the wife into gaming just let her win a couple times at Singstar and she'll be hooked :D

Hahaha, save the congrats for now, I still have a few months left before the ball and chain is attached, but thanks anyway.
That singstar is not a bad idea really especially since she's into this cheesy music, hahahaha.

Moving on, I really wanna get Resistance 2 I see you and Valante been playing it a few times Info. I wanna get it before everybody starts playing Killzone 2 online. hahahaha.

You still got a month and abit left till K2 gets here plenty of time I still wanna finish the game on super human before K2 gets here only finshed it on difficult so far and the online play keeps distracting me :D

Not the greatest news ever but at least it's not a xbox exclusive anymore :D

On sale Tuesday 20th January, the latest issue of Official PlayStation Magazine UK will have the first official Killzone 2 review, Future publishing announced this morning.

Not only do you get a review, you get a "highly collectable" holographic wallet which has an image of a Helghast trooper on it and it also "shifts colour as the light catches it."

"Killzone 2 is without doubt the best looking game on the PlayStation 3, and we wanted to come up with a treatment that mirrored the visual voodoo which the development team at Guerrilla Games has pulled off," said Tim Clark, Editor in Chief of Official PlayStation Magazine UK.

"We couldn't be happier with the finished results."

David Wilson, UK PR Manager at Sony Computer Entertainment UK, added:

"Killzone 2 has been a long time in the making, and best showcases why PlayStation 3 is the only console powerful enough to deliver a ground-breaking title of this nature. Who better to partner with than the Official PlayStation Magazine, in order to offer the readers a special collectors edition issue. It's a great way to celebrate the launch of this milestone game."

On sale Tuesday 20th January, the latest issue of Official PlayStation Magazine UK is the first place gamers will get the definitive verdict on the game. Showcasing the true next-gen power of the PlayStation3, Killzone 2 gets a comprehensive 6-page review, thanks to the Official magazine's unrivalled access.

To mark the event, the February issue comes encased in a highly collectable holographic wallet, emblazoned with an image of a Helghast trooper which shifts colour, as the light catches it.

Tim Clark, Editor in Chief of Official PlayStation Magazine UK, said:

Alongside the exclusive review of Killzone 2, the February issue of Official PlayStation Magazine UK also features the 20 best new games for PlayStation 3 - including God of War III, Uncharted 2: Amongst Thieves and Mini Ninjas. The magazine also reveals its Game of the Year for 2008, as voted by the readers.

The package is completed by the world's only Blu-ray demo disc, which contains 21 playable games including Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots, Bioshock and Valkyria Chronicles - for £5.99.

Wonder if it is available yet?

That seems like a worthwhile package!

Have any of you guys played Valkyria Chronicles? If you haven't, I cannot implore just how much this game should be played. Being such a brilliant game, it's doleful to note that the game did not garner much sales even though it's one of those elite games that every PS3 owner should play, shouldered by the likes of MGS4, I jester not.

Yeah, it sucks that so many good games do not get the recognition they deserve. It's one of those titles that i kept delaying to purchase, especially with so many great titles we've seen over the December period, but it's definitely on my "to get" list. It's still damn expensive, so i'm hoping and waiting for a 2nd-hand copy somewhere.

It's hard to find a copy of this game. But, I had to buy it, even at R700, and it was worth every cent!

Be warned though, this game does have a slight Japanese flavoring to it, and while the battle system is dynamic and unique, there is a turn based element to it.
For me, like most who have played it, these only served to bolster the splendor of this game.

I think i should add it to my KZ2 preorder from shopto.net - should work out quite a bit cheaper.
I love anime so the japanese flavouring is right up my alley. I've played the demo and loved it, so really looking forward to getting it, eventually.

Played a bit of Valkyria it's damn good actually!
Can't believe people never made a fuss about it, it's much better than that dredge that Squeenix has been pushing out.

I've been thinking:

What would you guys say to a PS3 Killzone 2 clan consisting of MyBB forumites?
Seems most of us are getting it here (Mine probably end March only)

Clan's a good plan. I'll prob blast through the single player first and then start with the multiplayer. And i think every MyBB ps3-owner will get KZ2, so shouldn't have a shortage of members.
