its my pleasure, hope you come right with you choice.

I use an old sinotec 42" plasma (no hdmi or hdcp) so i use my xbox 360 on the vga input, and my ps3 using component cables.

The tv res is 1024 x 768 and i sit about 2 - 2.5m from the tv, all told, it's a great experience for a fraction of the cost of the latest and greatest sony and samsung panels.

ultimately, it comes down to what your prepared forgoe in quality vs price..
my whole setup came to about 12k over 3 years (bought things in bits) and i use it about 2 - 3 times a week for gaming and everyday for normal tv, so thats just perfect for me..

you may have different needs, so decide what you want and dont fall into the marketing bs of full hd vs hd ready and this picture engine and that motion engine etc.
Even the best looking displays will lose their wow factor after a few months.
Were human, we get used to things, so rather choose with your head. :D

Roaming the streets of Glasgow (not the wisest thing to do) the other day, I came across a nice, friendly man from Sony’s PR lot in the middle of an anonymous multimedia store. In the midst of discussing Home, upcoming games and how long it was taking for the store’s PS3 to download Life With PlayStation (although we didn’t discuss why it would need the software, since it would be used in the store for gaming), he pipped up a little bit of information about Sony’s plans for the PS3 next year.

It seemed a little odd, but I figured it could be cool enough news to forward to all of you. Hit the jump for what he said!


According to this mysterious, mystical source - I’m trying to hype this up as much as I can - Sony have already started work on a slimline PS3. I know, I know: it’s perhaps just a little bit too early to start talking about such things. The Sony PR man assured me that this came from inside the company and that he was sure of what he was saying. Here’s the ‘facts’:

The parts are already designed and ready to be manufactured
The console could be out as early as Easter 2009
It will retail for £200/$300
Chatting to Rothbart about this, he’d heard rumours of a price cut in spring 2009 and so these two rumours might just coincide with each other; maybe they’re the same thing. The fact that this rumour came from inside Sony is what’s got me pondering.

Still, you can’t escape the fact that it might just be too early for a slimline PS3. Sony only announced and released the slimmed-down PS2 4 years after the console originally launched. To have a console shrunken down, ready for production and prepared for release just 2 and a half years after the original launch (2 years if you live in SCEE territory) sounds a little premature.

All we know is, it’s a roomah. Sony might be making a slimline PS3 now, or they might not. I’ve sent an email off to Sony just in case. The least we can hope for is a ‘no comment’.

UPDATE: Since writing this article, I have indeed received a stern ‘no comment’ from SCEE. ‘We don’t comment on rumour or speculation’ was the exact wording, but I can’t see a denial in there anywhere. I think there could be s0me meat to this rumour: watch this space…

Stereoscopic 3-D for PS3

As it turns out, stereoscopic 3-D technology isn't just reserved for the fabulously bored ... of making flat, $1.8 billion-grossing Hollywood weepies. No, 3-D, like "put on those big, goofy glasses" 3D, can be the work of mere mortals. Like these two fellers above, from Blitz Games Studios.

In what's been billed as an MTBS exclusive (that's: "Meant To Be Seen"), Blitz has reportedly confirmed that Sony "fully intends" to update PlayStation 3 to support stereoscopic 3-D gaming and Blu-ray watching next year (presumably, in time for Ubisoft's 3-D Avatar game). What's more, MTBS suggests that the ability to upgrade to 3-D via a firmware update could be unique to PS3 (the console is a 4D concept, after all) -- potentially leaving current Xbox 360 owners to endure gaming life in a veritable stone age.

Blitz, famous for its trio of Burger King Xbox games, has its hands in the forthcoming movement, developing its own "BlitzTech" 3-D engine, which debuted earlier this month at the 3D Entertainment Summit in LA. Well then Blitz, we can't wait to see it in Hell, er, Hall, Kentia Hall -- next June.

Hope someone's actually still working or am i the only sod?
Need some help - got a PC with Vista over the weekend, and i can't get it to stream to my PS3. Anyone else on a similar set-up? So far Vista's been more trouble than anything else. :(
 
nah kerrang, i be feeling your pain! I'm working everyday except the public holidays. Have you tried Tversity on that setup?

Just enable media sharing in Vista, your PS3 will see it.
I use that to "stream" music and movies.

;)
 
bah, sucks to have to do this but hey, family comes first .......

So anyway, can you fanbois gimme some tips on setting up the PS3 (:sick:) as a media center? My bro has no internet access while he's moving and he wants it setup asap ........ so ja, ta and all that :p:D

Thanks for the info - pardon the further questions but Vista is a bit greek to me atm. Where do i enable the media sharing on Vista? Control panel?

@Solidus: nope not TVersity, using Windows Media Player, which worked fine on XP.
 
o ok, the sharing function should be in control panel. I don't like windows media player so i use tversity instead. @mephisto, on a windows pc its an easy setup. Just go into control panel (XP i don't know vista) then windows media connect. It should pick up the ps3 that way just enable the folders you want to share.

WINDOWS XP/Vista: For Windows users, the choice is simple: Windows Media Player 11. Other free options exist, like TVersity and Google Media Server, which add features like mobile access. But those were in beta at the time of this writing, and we had the fewest problems and fastest setup using WMP 11.

Open WMP, right-click on Library, and select Media Sharing. Check the box next to "Share my media to:" and select either PlayStation 3 or Unknown Device (if the former doesn't appear).

Btw, finished Resistance 2's single player last night and while the story isn't great, the ending more than makes up for it. Perfect setup for R3. :D

I just finished Resistance 2 now got it for xmas :D the ending was......... (no words to describe) I was like this for 2 minute after :eek: I can't believe that happened........
