Official Springbok Tri-Nations Thread

What a game on Saturday.

Just as I swore at January for being so bloody useless and telling my dad they should have had Pienaar on and replaced January at the start of the second half already.... He goes and score the winning try :o :D

Seriously

That little moment of briliance is what got the Sprinboks the game. Again they where out of place, lack in decision making and and and. This time we got the scrums right (And no guessing why ;)) Looks like the team is making an upward gain which is good.

And what does PDV go and say after the match ... Our country is going thru changes and and and... FK ME THIS IS NOT 1995 you dumb idiot !

Seriously, they should get a spokes person for him. He's a lost case when it comes to speaking to the media

It must be tough walking around with egg on your face!!!

And still you feel the need to pick holes where none exist. Can you not just be happy? Where the hell were we "out of place, lacking in decision making and and and" on Saturday? Did you only watch the first minute and last five?

Yes, Januaries try may have been the winning score, well actually it wasn't as Steyn's conversion was, but it was not just this "moment of brilliance" that won us the game. If you are unaware the final score was 30-28, and a try is worth 5 points, so somewhere along the line enough effort was put in to get us the remaining 25 points! And this effort was put in by every player on the field. We did not win merely by the luck of the bounce of one kicked ball... we won due to a concerted and full on effort of all the players, and reserves, and coaching staff.

Do not try to belittle it.

EDIT : And talking of dumb idiots... this country is still going through change so it is quite correct for PDV to mention this!

I am as happy as anyone that we won. I must admit that I thought it was all over when Matfield got binned and I was really impressed with the AB ability to move that ball away from the breakdown area - that we held them out is testimony to great defence.

I also thought the ref was unbiased. The first time I have thought that in a long while. I don't think that he is the best ref but he was fair. And it was unlucky for Matfield that he got binned - but the ref had warned and told both teams that the next players was being sent off. Maybe it wasn't the worst offence ever but I guess we have to live with it.

On the Bismark incident - I saw a thumb pretty close to an eye. But you couldn't tell intent - just what it looked like. The chap on the receiving end seemed to get up with no problem and he didn't complain at all. I don't know about you but if I fall down on an ice rink I'll push myself up with a fist - I don't want someone skating over my fingers and slicing them off. If I was lying at the bottom of a heap of players and I want to push myself up and found my hand on someone's face I would probably also make a fist because if one of my fingers went in his mouth it may well get bitten off - well in my mind at any rate. There is a big difference between international and school boy rugby. At school we'd probably have waited to get up, at this level waiting to get up on the off chance that someone gets stood upon just isn't an option.

Hoskins does have a point about the penalties handed down. Maybe the penalty in effect is the same - a one match ban but maybe the penalty should always be expressed in terms of match bans rather than a period of time.

Oh I hope the rumours of Spies and Kankowski being involved on Saturday are true :D

I've also heard it and apparently it is more than rumours as Spies was practising in that position and then Kankowski took over... damn we have depth in the loose forwards!

And Brits would really not be a bad bet against the Aussies even if it were not forced - they not quite as strong in the scrums and the game could be a lot looser!

Bring it on!

Yes we do! I always wanted to see Albert Van Den Berg playing on the flank or 8th man. I reckon he's such an amazing athlete but was never big enough to be an international lock. At 107kg he's about 10-15kg short of the mark but at 2.01m and with pace to burn what an awesome option to have him jumping at the tail. Anyway he hasn't earned as many Springbok caps as he might have had he been a loosie...

Seems the Boks are in demand at the mo....

http://www.supersport.co.za/rugby/a...&headline=Boks take all the plaudits in Perth

I still think Kanko would be better suited against the Aussies though ........ Spies is a bit too Bulls (read backwards :p) minded for the running game :D
Oh and I also rate Britz ..... he should (better) have a good one. Same with Albert .... man that lanky chap is a good rugby player.

I prefer Spies to Kanko as a starter. Burger and Spies will stop the Aussies. Later in the game you bring on the impact players. That is how the whole Skinstad thing ought to have worked. Don't make the same mistake in thinking that a runner should start - rugby isn't a 15 player game anymore, and hasn't been for a while now.

I reckon we'll be having (or should be anyway) more of the Sharks S14 type game on Saturday ..... that's the direction the Aussies have gone in a big way so we better not come to the table with the AB's gameplan.

As long as its not the sharks' semifinal gameplan, or rather lack there of :(

I really thing we can and will win on saturday :D

what are the venues for the South African legs of the Tri-Nations?

Hi Everyone

I came accross this on News24.....

"Would an Australian win be better for the Boks because we seem to have their number here on home soil, or would a New Zealand win to prevent the Aussie's jumping ahead of the pack be better?"

i think we need the all blacks to lose this one or the next one against the aussies

doubt the aussies will hold them out for another 40 minutes

unbelievable game

Great game Aus haven't won too many against them

Statistics for New Zealand vs Australia
Games played: 128 28.57%
Games won by New Zealand: 85 66.41%
Games lost by New Zealand: 38 29.69%
Games drawn: 5 3.91%
Most wins in a row for New Zealand over Australia: 9
Most losses in a row for New Zealand to Australia: 3

Aus certainly seem to have their act together atm with this young team... but they are playing at home.

im not sure about the aussies brad

last week we played poorly, i dont think they play very well, again this week i think they wont because of all the all black errors, will be interesting to see how they go when either the all blacks or us are playing well

what a great game, glad the aussies won because we needed it, now the all blacks must give it to the aussies next week

Well done dingo dean, what i dream start so far for his international career. NZRU kicking themsleves now...

Waiting for tour to SA... not a particularly good record in SA, but dingo dean will have a few tricks up his sleeve, no doubt.

Well done wallabies!!!!

+1 Killa - it was an awesome game. I just hope our guys see the value in fresh blood / legs. I think its time to call it quits for some of our old stars. Let's hope NZ sort them (Aus) out next round. I'd rather come second to NZ than Aus for one, but of course
1) SA
2) NZ
3) Aus

Would be ideal!
