That depends on how much disruption the Saxons may cause, my concern however is that Ackermann will be assisted by Chumani Booi and Abe Davids. Yes, the whole policy thing... but Booi has no credentials to coach there and Davids well... he made up his credentials.

Look carefully at the selections... I know Seargal can cover at 15 but why no specialist fullback?

My best bet is that Kolbe was on the team sheet, but due to the bad knock they had to replace him until he is properly assessed which may result in him being unavailable.

Coetzee did state that Kolbe and de Jongh was excluded due to their participation in the sevens, otherwise they would had been in the team. Note, this statement was made in regard with the Springboks team. The thing is though, the June window still allows Rio sevens players to participate in the June Test Series, and the SA A Team vs England Saxons test is only 2 matches.

/These discussions should be taken to the June 2016 Tests Thread should we continue.

Mark Hammett an option for Crusaders or Highlanders coaching jobs?

Mark Hammett isn't giving much away, but he appears to have entered the race for the Crusaders and Highlanders coaching jobs.

The former All Blacks hooker is currently coaching the Sunwolves, Super Rugby's new entrant from Japan, and will also be a caretaker coach of the Japanese national side in June.

But Hammett is keen to return to New Zealand - his wife and two daughters have remained in Christchurch - and when asked whether he had applied for positions at the Crusaders and Highlanders, who are seeking replacements for Todd Blackadder and Jamie Joseph respectively, he replied: "Possibly."

Jamie Joseph is already assigned as the Brave Blossoms coach, and has to attend to administration duties at the JRFU while he has to coach the Highlanders. I suspected Mark Hammett leaving as they only want to sign players onto the Sunwolves roster when Joseph resumes his coaching position in Japan, meaning that there is a likelihood that Joseph also has to coach the Sunwolves as the plan was with Eddie Jones.

On this note, when comparing the Sunwolves to the Top League teams, the Sunwolves play really slow – the slowest set pieces in the Super Rugby competition, whilst their strong point is dynamic rugby. Their reliance on the ‘Foreign Legion’ was clear… yes, the squad was assembled way too late and they only had 2 weeks’ preparation entering the competition. Maybe Hammett was not meant to coach the Sunwolves, it took the coaching team way too long to condition the squad, they tried rugby which was not suited by most Japanese players.

In the case that Joseph do take over I have a suspicion that he is going to scratch the team, nobody is signed to play in 2017. I’m also sure that he will bring Tanaka over which is likely to take over the captaincy, expect more Brave Blossoms and Top League players in the squad. Japan is also in a good position, as the Brave Blossoms squad is very young, much to work with...

Hammett in my opinion is most suited to take over at the Highlanders, they are play his rugby. The question however, will Joseph be a better coach than Hammett in Japan as both are probably amongst the top 10 rated coaches? They should had appointed Robbie Deans imho, but I think that he is locked up with Panasonic.

Bulls' Van der Merwe off to France

Cape Town - The Blue Bulls Company (Pty) Ltd confirmed on Thursday that prop Marcel van der Merwe will join French Top 14 giants Toulon.

Van der Merwe, who has seven Springbok caps to his name, will leave Pretoria at the completion of this year's Vodacom Super Rugby season.

With the Bulls looking like outsiders for the playoffs, Van der Merwe could have as few as three more matches for the Pretoria-based franchise.

Another prop on the rise to leave SA. He is selected to play in the A team, but with the changing policies we may lose these players playing abroad.

At least the Bulls has the Boland, Pumas and Border... They will not have an issue entering 2017.

Stormers' Bok prop off to Saracens

Cape Town - English and European champions Saracens have announced the signing of Stormers prop Vincent Koch.

Koch, along with Scotland wing Sean Maitland, will join on two-year deals ahead of the 2016/17 season.

They join alongside new signings Schalk Burger (Stormers), Mark Flanagan (Bedford Blues) Alex Lozowski (Wasps) and Save Rawaca (Fiji 7s).

Koch, who is currently preparing to face England Saxons with South Africa 'A', will link up with Saracens after a spell for the Stormers in Super Rugby that has seen the 26-year old capped by the Springboks on two occasions.

Speaking about his move to north London, Koch told Saracens' official website: “I am very honoured and privileged to join a champion team like Sarries. Ever since I visited Saracens I just knew that they would be the perfect club for me. I’m really looking forward to join the boys for the upcoming season to begin the hard work for the 2016/17 campaign.”

OT:

Goromaru has been released by Yamaha, ending his long relationship with the company and their rugby. Signed by Toulon, and having Jonny Wilkinson as his personal trainer. He accepted the Toulon deal with an option to be extended by another year. That’s it, he is most likely done with the Brave Blossoms at age 30, ending his career in Europe.
