Official Super Rugby 2016 Thread

I love how it was touted as being less travel but it's turned out to be more travel ....... meh, dunno if even worth bothering this diluted poop.

Definitely is a joke of a format.

Presumably then if a team plays NZ opposition this year, then next year they'll swap and play AUS opposition?

Or will it be Super 28 in 2017?

In my opinion the 2016 Super Rugby season is a trial. They approved a Japanese team which received approval, but the team still has to employ a roster, management (and coach). I think the pool schedules are a hit and run… How long ago did every team play every team, also as Fanie said that teams travelling around are a logistics issue.

I don’t see Super Rugby expanding above the current setup.

Looking at the top 2 SA teams in the 2015 Super Rugby season.

Lions played Crusaders and Reds
Stormers played Chiefs and Force

Argentina Rugby Union has signed 21 of the current World Cup squad for their new Super Rugby squad.

Here is the 30 players signed so far. More players to be added later.

I got that from a spanish website and Google Translate was not kind.

It did mention something about one player and the Brumbies but heaven only knows what was said. :p

Sure we will get better clarity in the next 2 months about the side.

Good call. Nollis is taking Bulls rugby is the correct direction.

Let's hope so would have liked Jimmy Stonehouse, but according to the criteria for the post Nollis does not qualify for it. They probably changed their minds.

Stonehouse went for an interview with the EP Kings recently.

No clue what the outcome was unfortunately. Probably couldn't promise him that his pay will be in his account by the last day of the month :(

We offered him a contract(probably as assistant coach, but the Ludeke writing was on the wall already) a few years ago but he refused. Maybe it's a blessing in disguise - Marais has worked hard to get where he is now, and he's done very few things wrong so far.

Super Rugby welcomes the Sunwolves

Cape Town - A new era of rugby has risen in Japan with confirmation that its new Super Rugby team will be known as the Sunwolves.

Monday's announcement by Yo****aka Tashiro, Representative Director of the Japan Super Rugby Association (JRSA), is the product of an initiative that saw the JRSA engage fans from all over the world to help devise an identity for its new team.

The name is a hybrid comprising the blazing icon of the 'Land of the Rising Sun' and a wolf which represents a pack hunting mentality and a dedicated team ethos of protecting one another.

The striking logo depicts the breaking of a new dawn for Japanese rugby and a fearsome representation of the team's desired playing style as they seek to utilise speed, unity and a fearless spirit to face their challenges.

SANZAR Interim CEO, Brendan Morris, welcomed the Sunwolves to Super Rugby.
