Cheetahs in trouble: Brussow injured in warm-up match against Griffons on Friday.

Will post more details as they become available.

With the Refs being much more strict this year on the breakdown, tackled player not rolling away, i dont think that Brussow will be as effective as he was last year with his ball stealing. If anything he might be penalised severly, i could be wrong though, we will have to wait and see.

Careful - some of us are common people. I enjoy the East side when the weather plays up...

Skree you vrou ook Po3s kliphard al weet sy nie waaroor rugby gaan nie.
Blameer jy ook die ref vir alles al ken jy self nie die reels nie?

See if you do not adhear to one of those then your not common so no need to worry.

I beg to differ. He will have just as big an influence, if not bigger.
But yes, I understand where you are coming from and we will have to wait and see.
Last year I spoke to a few referees and they were full of praise for Brussow. Not because of the way he plays, but because of the way he listens to the referee. Have a look at all his games. Whenever a referee shouts "No 6, leave, you're off your feet", he does that immediately.
He also adapts very quickly to how a referee blows the game. If he gets a penalty against him, he makes sure to find out what it was for. And then either corrects his technique or just avoids situations like that all together.
Brussow is a very clever player and would certainly have worked on his technique during the build-up to the Super 14 to fit in with the new law interpretations.
He is not just a fetcher. He is always there as a support runner, ball carrier and carrying the ball at a maul.
IMO, he is our best player.(Cheetahs and Boks)

BLUSH!

At least she comes to the games with me. And she's hot. Hey, we common folk have just as much fun....

I watched the S14 Final from the North stand. That was fantastic. Never went to my seat but rather stood in front with a fellow smurf (painted blue) and his chick (who was embarrassed for both of us). Hey, give the common folk a break - they do fill the stadium.

If you don't respect others you ar e common.
I do not have a problem with guys getting their noses and nipples pierced for the bulls (I will not however :)) but to sit next to me and 3 of my friends of which 2 are female and keep shouting: "Die K0nt moet nit v0k off. Die P03s is te *** om...." is common.

I hope you are not one of them.

I agree with you about his attitude and style of play, he is a class act thats for sure, and most probably the best in the world ATM.

I'm not trying to knock or downtalk the lad, i dont know if you watched the Sharks/Stormers warm up match, Craig Joubert was very strict on the brakedowns/rolling away/holding on, and gave alot of penalties.

The likes of M'caw, Waugh, and Smith are all going to have to be aware now as will Brussow have to be.

Sorry if my post came across as defensive or aggressive. Not my intention. Just expressing my view on Brussow.

Yes I watched the game. It was frustrating to see almost no contest. But I believe it is just a matter of time before the players adapt and we will see some good rugby.
Feedback from the Cheetahs camp was that the officiating at the breakdown area, in the games against Griquas, Griffons and EP, was causing some major headaches for players and coaching staff.

Brussow will not be stopped or affected as much as Aus and NZ teams are hoping for.
He is more than just a fetcher. He is the complete package.

He is also short, stocky and built like a brick ****house, with that low centre of gravity it wont take him long to adapt to the new reffing style, his attitude, and good temper is what also seperates him from the others.

Lets just hope that the Refs dont kill the game, and most importantly ref both sides/teams equally.

Anyone know of a p2p system from your part of the world?.
I'd like to watch Varsity series and obviously super 14.
I regularly check myp2p.eu and there is one person accessing Varsity and broadcasteing via spvod for IE only.
Obvioulsy there is acroddthetasman but I haven't had time to search it yet.
I'm looking for someone who is broadcasting using just media player.

Yes - those people are a step beyond the rest. Look, I am a LUKEtchman from the plaas but that kind of thing is silly - they spoil it for families and this is why I can't take my kids as often as I would like to.

I know the Cheetahs had Jaco Peyper(up-and-coming ref) in to help them with some of the new interpretations. Sure Naka or rather Os had Brussow in the front row to listen.

I still cannot believe that PDivvy took so long to get him into the team. And then when he proved himself over and over in B&I Lions Tour and Tri-Nations, he wanted to play him from the bench or not at all in the End Of Year Tour.

Only site I know about to view all Super 14 games is www.justin.tv

I doubt if they will stream varsity cup but will stream all Super 14 games.

Jip. It is sad but true.

But all the teams have their common people.

Continuing with the discussion from last night about Brussow.

Very nice analysis from Gary Gold.

Your predictions are pretty much spot on, except for the Bulls/Cheetahs match, i think you are giving the Bulls a to much credit, i would say Cheetahs by 3 is little more accurate.;)

Nice find, Gary G pretty much summed it all up, and just think the Sharks tried their best to get him as far as i know, but he turned it down.

I don't know if this is a good thing.
Yes we all want to have a go at the referees from time to time but I think it will turn post match interviews into a circus. Some journalists will ask the right/wrong questions.

In an interesting turn of events referees will finally be publicly accountable for their decisions at Post Game Press Conferences of Super 14 rugby matches this season, a result of the refereeing hierarchy’s efforts to add transparency & accountability to the game’s whistlers and their decisions.

NZRU high performance referee manager Lyndon Bray said “They (referees) have probably always been slightly threatened in the past by the concept of facing up on TV after games,” Bray told Radio Sport. “We’ve all acknowledged this is probably an important step. It brings us into line with the coaches and the players, who also have to do this.”

Whistle blowers have been the talk of the town in the lead up to this year’s Super 14 after it was announced there will be an emphasis on enforcing breakdown interpretations more literally from the law book.

This, Bray said, should create a more flowing spectacle than the kick-dominated play of 2009. He said yellow cards could be produced earlier in games this year to deal with players unwilling to adjust their attitude.
