The ref missed a few high tackles made by the sharks as well as a Force player getting tackled in the air, was in the last 20 min that I watched.

The ref was crap and it influenced the game for both sides...

Stormers never needed a bonus point...it does nothing to their standing.

Lose with/without bonus point, they are still 4th

Win with/without bonus point, they are 2nd

They need to win to get home semi, otherwise they may as well get a head start on a trip to Sydney.

Lions just finished their perfect season. I'll be bring up the Southern Kings argument again later today.

The Lions are totally useless. I cannot understand how a team can be so bad. On the other hand if the Stormers can't beat the Bulls team today I don't know.

Methinks this makeshift Bulls team is just hellbent on injuring and weakening the Breezers ...... they're not even trying to score points and win as much as trying to hurt people.

This game is already over as a contest.

I think it's quite ironic that the Bulls have the harder semi despite playing the 4th best team.

The hand of fate has a weird way of playing out ;)

This game is a joke but its better to have 2 local teams in home semi finals and hopefully it doesn't backfire on them.

Ok first off well done Bulls, well done Stormers, I hope that you meet in the final. However, I have to say is there still a reason that the Lions deserve their Super Rugby licence? Some of the things that they have done this season:
*lost 13 games, pick up only 5 log points (almost a third of 13th place),
*they have a PD of - 315 (almost triple the next worst),
*they have an attendence record of under 15 000 per game.

I must ask, how could the Southern Kings be worse?

What about a combination of Cheetahs/Lions/Southern Kings?

Of course the difficulty would be deciding where the home venue is, but hopefully it won't provide everyone else a free 5-pointer...

Well SA have 5 licences, so Stormers, Sharks, Bulls, and 2 of Southern Kings, Cheetahs and Lions. I propose a merged Cats team, with either 5 games in Joburg and 3 in Bloem, or 4 each.

So next week's semi-finals are:

Bulls vs Crusaders
Stormers vs Waratahs

Where have the Southern Kings proved themselves? Bear in mind I know very little about them.

There seems to be assumptions being made that they can only do better than the Lions but it is possible for a new team to actually play as bad or even worse than them. Now we are talking about losing both the Cheetahs and Lions (by way of joining forces) just to make room for a team which could not get in on their own accord. Have they proven themselves?

They have not been given the opportunity to prove themselves, despite taking SARU to court, amongst other things. SARU have blocked every attempt they made and the latest compromise was that they can play as a Currie Cup team in 2011 or 2012 (the date keeps being moved by SARU).

Thanks for the link Moggie:

Here is a rather interesting quote:

The Spears were told that they would not be included in the 2007 Super 14 over issues of competitiveness

However I can see where SARU are coming from although I'm not sure one can get worse than the Lions:

The Spears were intended to draw players from the following unions that participate in South Africa's main domestic competition, the Currie Cup:

* Border Bulldogs, representing the eastern half of Eastern Cape Province
* Eagles, representing the portion of Western Cape Province east of the Cape Town metropolis; more precisely the Overberg, Central Karoo and Eden districts of that province
* Mighty Elephants, representing the western half of Eastern Cape

In the three Unions that the Spears draw from, none are currently in the Premier Division of the Currie Cup.

Yep, so now the question reverts back to SARU; how competitive are the Lions and should they be in the Super 14?

Surely the Spears cannot lose more than 13 out of 13 !!!!

So we have absolutely nothing ion which to judge them? With all due respect, none of those feeder teams they are using are particularly strong.

Have you seen the list of players that have left those 3 regions to play for a Super 14 team?
