Official Thread: Samsung Galaxy S (I9000)

WOWOW! I just ran RyanZA's lag fix!.../

How big should one make the ext2?

Edit: before I had 1.8Gig in internal memory, I selected 515mb for ext2, now I have 415mb free internal memory, should I select more for ext2 when installing lag fix? Running Froyo.

Have you received the cover? I want to order one of those because they dont get in the way of docking stations etc.

Have not received yet. Only ordered it same or day before when I mentioned it. It is from abroad so assume about a two week wait.

How on earth can they afford to give away free screen protectors??

They might not be of the best quality and the manufacturing process there for utterly cheap. I gather they get their money either from their other dealings or make it up in the +-R30 shipping fees.

Yeah, root and you void your warranty but you can unroot(aka get the warranty back on) the phone though.

I wouldn't stake anything on that. I agree you can get to virtually original working condition but companies are becoming sly.

A quick question for all users: What is your average monthly data usage like using the phone for mild browsing, emails, facebook etc....? (Im not talking about those of you that use it as your primary internet device)

I reckon one could get away with anything between 100-250MB depending if you use opera mini, download email attachments or anything and how active you auto sync is.

I went through 300Mb a few says ago. I need to think about the next package up. VC's data is way too frigging expensive

Thanks for the input so far. Yeah I need to try and decide what package to take for my needs. I think me and my wife will both be upgrading to this phone in the next 2-3 months. I hope the packages improve, because at the moment the choices aren't that great.

Packages haven't been good for some time now. Way too stuck in the past. Smartphones don't have any decent packages available. VC have tried to flog something, but the data should be at least 400Mb to 500Mb. A couple of apps downloaded, a few emails, some time on the internet and it's all gone.

How hot do your SGS units typically run? Finding this one pretty damn warm a lot of the time - up near the top, not near the battery. Happens when charging and when using applications. Not usually hot enough to burn or anything but it's a concern unless you folks tell me it's usual :)

Its normal....but I recommend switching off the wifi and not using the CPU much while you're charging it

It happens, then the nice notification of the battery being too hot or too cold pops up. Best way would just to not use the phone at all when charging which can be quite a bug at times.

Eh, I can handle not using it while charging but if 20 mins of Angry Birds is going to make it cooking hot I'm going to be a little sad :)

Hi

Is there any app that allows you to create folders within the main menu of all applications??

No. You can create folders on your homescreens though.

What I do, is use LauncherPro. It lets you hide apps in the app drawer, I hide apps that already have shortcuts on the homescreen as well as apps where I don't need a shortcut there such as ones where I just use the widgets.
Also I hide the Lookout app, so only a smart thief can stop me from tracking my phone.

I like that. I had to use this function before on a previous phone of mine (unfortunately) and Im sure this would have helped it be more "successful".

WOW!! that was scary, just rooted my galaxy s the one click pc way.
The whole thing was easy,i was just so worried something will go wrong.
What do i do next, what is the benefit from the rooting(total rooting noob me guys)
