Official Thread: Samsung Galaxy S (I9000)

Ok i backed up everything. I did a quick google and it seems all it needed was a restart. :)

Frack 140+ apps..... dont think il be flashing all that often.

My quadrant score is 1395 as apposed to 2000something on eclair kind of weird
If you were running RyanZA's OCLF in Eclair, it's pretty understandable. OCLF kinda tricks Quadrant into giving you higher scores than what actually resembles smooth performance on a daily basis. A Quadrant score of +-1400 is realistic and if you run No RFS, EXT4/a you should have a very smooth experience in using the phone, even with loads of apps, and it won't slow down after a while.

EDIT: phoneJunky beat me while I was typing. :p

You probably had the OCLF lag fix. That thing is skewed the results in its favour. It isn't necessarily better than what we have now. The new one isn't even really a lagfix as far as I understand, it just makes the new filesystem ext4 which is faster than the previous filesystem.

All of the lag fixes for the SGS modify the file system in some way - OCLF created a separate partition for your apps' data and copied it there. The underlying file system for the device was still RFS at the end of the day. It became slow if you had loads of apps and after using it for a while, since the partition started filling up. The newer lag fixes completely change the file system, which will give you a smoother experience in the long run.

Where can I buy a nice cover for my SGS?

So you took the plunge? :D What type of cover are you looking for? You should even decide IF you want one... The device really is durable and I have yet to get a scratch on my screen after months of hard use...

I agree with FarligOpptreden, despite only having my device about a week or so, I think it is pretty durable. I have however looked at getting cases myself but for now have order those free cases from StealthGuard. Just google it, find you device, pay for shipping and see if you like it. Shipping is about R30. Don't won't to bulk up my phone with unnecessary case if I don't have to. I'm just trying to protect it from scratches rather than impacts.

I am so not going to void my warranty and root plus I actually like the way samsungs UI works...just wish, like everyone else, that the official froyo release for SA would come now.

whats the easiest way to sync my outlook calender to my android device.
i do do it using blueteeth or usb ad hoc wifi aswell.

Well sad to say that i am thinking of ditching my Galaxy S and getting the Nokia N8, or failing getting enough money for that i will just get a cheap phone.

I never thought i would miss the camera on my N82 but i am. And with so many android tablets coming out i might as well get one of them rather.

Anyone else having issues with downloading from the market? My phone now just says 'downloading..............' and the little red arrow download icon briefly appears in the notification area and then never again.

I'm actually not sure what firmware/rom/kernel/phone/pda I now have 'cos I've tried so many things now to fix this.

Eish!

How do I get back to a vanilla state?

Thanks benitok!

Alas I've tried all these options :-(

Oh well, back to the Nokia 3310

Well you only need it if your phone lags (for example, your phone slows down when scrolling through your apps). The easiest way to do it is using 'RyanZA's OCLF' which you can find in the Market. It has instructions built-in it but if you need any help just ask here (I cant help much, i'm also a bit of a noob)

*Remember to undo the lagfix (with the same app) before you upgrade to 2.2!!!

Download the Google Calendar Sync application for windows. I sync my Outlook calendar to my Google calendar and then get the updates synced on my phone...

That and the 3BP fix - it's by far the most important thing to sort out on any SGS.

Have you received the cover? I want to order one of those because they dont get in the way of docking stations etc.

+1 works like a charm. Takes a min or so to come through to the phone after its created in outlook.

How on earth can they afford to give away free screen protectors??
