Anyway to disable 3gs and only use wifi, have tried but nothing.
If using Android 2.1, get APNDroid from the market.
On 2.2 you can hold down the power button and a menu comes up allowing you to disable network data.

whew okay i installed the Docfroyo base rom (I always get nervous when doing these kind of things) but how do I go about installing the 'base to medium' package? Do i just copy it to my internal sd, boot into clockwork recovery and apply the zip update?
Oh and thanks for all the previous info, Titanium backup really helped

Why get nervous? It really is very very easy. Once you've done it, it becomes a habit - and an addiction.I get nervous just reading this.
Yup, like I said, it becomes an addiction to find the most optimized, streamlined ROM out there.Haha! Just got your phone? You'll be doing all this stuff soon, trust me
I flashed JPA, resulting in no incoming calls and reverted to JPO rather. As there is no gallery on JPO I installed gallery 3d which works except that it crashed whenever i want to add a new wallpaper.
Has anyone experienced this?
I am still on JPA, and I do get incoming calls..
There should be a gallery in JPO, did you installed all the app packs?
Yes. With CWM you can flash any unsigned ZIP file, it doesn't need to be in the root of the SD and it can be called pretty much anything (.zip). I have a folder on the internal SD to organize all my flashable files, with proper names for each so I can identify them. In CWM, just choose the option to flash a ZIP file from the SD and then browse to the appropriate file...
There've been numerous versions of the Gallery. Try downloading a couple of versions off the internet to see which one works the best for you. The one that was part of the Doc_Kalpik ROM V6 was pretty good - loaded images blisteringly fast and the transition animations were also incredibly fast. The latest version fixes overuse of the orientation sensors, but is slower in transition animations (about the same as stock SGS Eclair).I flashed JPA, resulting in no incoming calls and reverted to JPO rather. No need to reflash. Just install Gallery 3D from the market or other versions off the web...Yes I installed base to medium and medium to large. Perhaps I should just reflash.
Which apps did you backup with Titanium? Did you backup your messaging app as well? I'm not too worried in losing SMSes and call logs, that's why I never bother backuping them up.Ok i Installed Doc JPO rom and restored my back up from Titanium Back up. But i seem to have lost all my smses.....
I tried to revert back to the back up i made of my original rom before flashing but it does not want to work just hangs on the first i9000 screen.
Any advice?
That's a security design in Android to prevent applications from just randomly installing other apps in the background without your knowledge. Another option might be to create your own flashable ZIP file and flash it via CWM. That way it's a once-off without any user input. Be careful though, you run the risk of screwing up directory structures and your apps' data if you don't do it correctly, which would result in you having to reflash the ROM and doing a factory reset.Another quick question,
With titaium back up if you want to restore. each up asks you to 1) install and 2) click done.
IS there a way to skip this whole process so it all installs without user input?
Seriously when are they ever going to release an official froyo for Galaxy S, this is dragging on for ages.

If you don't have incoming calls it might be that your /efs folder got screwed up somewhere along the line. You should always make a backup of it so you can restore it if something goes awry during flashing.
