Official Thread: Samsung Galaxy S (I9000)

I flashed my phone and am now happily running Froyo 2.2 (JPO ROM) with UFS and NO-RFS Advanced EXT4 lagfix scheme.

It's smooth and I love it!

Just a question to all the hardcore flashers here: Is there a way to return to the stock firmware if I ever need to take it back for Waranty issues?

Link to the Rom you flashed please. My phone is rooted and RyanZA OCLF lagfix applied.

Can I just undo the lagfix via OCLF app and follow instructions to flash new Rom?

WOW!! that was scary, just rooted my galaxy s the one click pc way.
The whole thing was easy,i was just so worried something will go wrong.
What do i do next, what is the benefit from the rooting(total rooting noob me guys)
Thanks

I'm sorry, maybe someone can explain this to me, but why do people want to root their phone or even lagfix, if they obviously don’t need, or even know why they're doing it.

To answer your question - the advantages of rooting is to give you access to parts of the file structure that you do not currently have, it also allows you to get super access, and the ability to install apps that require to get access to the root.

Another big advantage is that you can now flash custom ROMs, but please don’t do it if: 1. your current OS doesn’t piss you off :-), and 2. your 3-button recovery/download doesn’t work – this is just asking for tears.
The disadvantages are you lose your warranty and you can screw up your phone if you have access to the parts of the phone that are hidden for a reason.

In conclusion it is ridiculous to root your phone if you're not going to use the advantages that come with it.

The number one reason I find is that it's easier to keep up to date with the latest Android releases. Waiting for Samsung is a pain.

I got Froyo without rooting my phone (through the beta from Kies). I've never seen any reason to root my phone, nor do a lagfix, everything works and I'm quite happy with it now. Everyone who does this just seems to create more problems for themselves.

2.3 is being released in the next few weeks. How long before Samsung updates to that? If at all.

This Froyo update might be the last one that the Galaxy S gets, juding from Samsung's past.

Where did you get this beta version then? I will consider doing that if allows one to get Froyo.

Beta was available through test mode in KIES. It's not available anymore, you could trick KIES into updating your phone with a European 2.2 firmware though. Look through xda developers forum

Best bet is waiting for the Nexus S to come out, that will have 2.3 Gingerbread from what most sources that have said.
Right now I really want CyanogenMod to get it's bugs ironed out, pretty fast and snappy.

The Nexus II's firmware leaked 3 days ago and its 2.2. Will have to wait and see what happens...

+10. I hope they have it out here before year end.

@Tim182.. Ya you right, i am going to wait.. I'm in no rush. I just hope samsung sa will still doing the future updates and quickly :) haha

I wouldn't even bother with the official updates. Custom versions are so much better. If you plan on rooting in any case you might just as well flash the rest yourself, if you think you have the IT knowledge required. It is not hard though...

I personally am running the official Froyo, but modified about everything else. I am using custom Touch Wiz launcher, modified the battery icon, lag fix.... Have a look through the xda forum and see whats available. There are some pre patched firmwares as well. Much faster, better than the official release.

I tend to hack apart my phones so will probably end up rooting at some point just for fun.

Here's a question for the rest of you though - how well does your tilt sensor work? If I tilt in an app it often doesn't change orientation.
