Official Vox DSL feedback thread

VDSL latency seems to be higher than ADSL by about 10ms. It has always been like this since I switched from ADSL to VDSL.
Something to do with the "nature of the infrastructure" I was told back in the day when I made the swtich and quiried the 10ms gain in Latency. I moved from 20Mbps ADSL to 20Mbps VDSL to get the higher upload speeds VDSL provide. ADSL was limited to 1Mbps.

It is shaping.
Not that they are necessarily deprioritizing some domains as much as they are prioritising others.
I can stream Netflix in HD with not s glitch any time of dsy or night and can download anything at line speed in business hours.
But come 4:30 pm my max download speed for "questionable" streaming sites is <200KBs on a 10Meg line whilst Netflix is still 100% line speed.

That's the price we're paying for better consumer grade products. The get used by consumers. Back in the day you saved your adsl and downloaded torrents from the office uncapped lol.

But they still sell it as an unshaped connection and it is blatantly not if commercial entities are getting priority.
The internet used to be a research tool, now it is a shopping mall.

i got a message from vox to say they increasing their prices in feb. didn't they just drop the prices?

I have not received that email as yet from Vox. The only thing I am receiving from Vox right now is crappy net. Running on my Afrihost account at the moment just to get constant speeds.

Mine has been bad all week.

Downloads that should take minutes are taking hours and I have horrific packet loss, sometimes refreshing 3 times just to open a pdf document.

But Netflix is flawless, howcome ?

If my line was only used for my netflix subscription I would be a very happy camper, but Netflix is less than 5% of my need so 95% of the time the service is useless. If the price goes up I will vote with my wallet, I did not sign up for VoD I signed up for business.

So the "ongoing commitment towards improving efficiencies" means that they have now totally oversubscribed the available bandwidth and started to shaped the unshaped accounts. That explains all the comments of the past week.

Mine is still perfectly perfect, zero complaints.

It looks like it is mainly the Western Cape that has Capacity / Infrastructure issues, I have seen that with several ISP's in the past.
I think they assume we spend most of the day on the Beach looking at the Mountain so have no real need for internet :)

This made me laugh - thanks :)

Sunday again and the same happens. During the week in day time it's good but it seems saterday? and sunday? is a problem.... At night time I don't use the Internet so I don't know how it is then.

Perhaps they run into capacity problems on weekends because everybody is streaming stuff. Really hope not.

And, again... Sunday again and the same problem. ?????

Im looking at getting a fatpipe 300gb account from Vox, if I can ask how is the performance on NNTP downloads as well as gaming?
