Official Vox DSL feedback thread

streaming the ESL game right now and it's 100% smooth as butter on source without any stuttering

Something is very wrong as of late.
Downloads before 2am don't go above 2mbps. YouTube is included here.

Unless everyone in my area is suddenly using Bolt-On accounts, something is borked.

Fat-pipe and Legacy bolt-on have the same issue.

Hi there. I'm Durbanville and have not experienced any issues on my Bolt-On that I'm actively noticing. What are you experiencing and when?

How would you guys rate Vox's uncapped services? Planning on using their 4MB facility.

Someone broke something again, I can't access Carbonite.

Edit: it seems to have fixed itself.

Nope, the work they want to do is in the future, I hope to get firm dates in the next day or two.

"We just want some time to upgrade the network so we can tell you there is no problem." :)

Hey all,

The testing tonight went EXTREMELY well.

We were finally able to narrow down the problem in Cape Town. It was exactly what we've said previously, but this time, with a great deal of evidence.

The latency issue experienced by some people in Cape Town has been isolated to the Telkom Upload VLAN to one of the Vox IPCs. We locked it down, and epiceye and PostManPat who were helping us test, had a few tears running down his face (so he says... PostManPat no pics, it didn't happen!) when he saw what the network is supposed to look like.

... then we reverted the change and made PostManPat cry even more.

The good news: problem isolated
The bad news: permanent fix not in place yet

Tomorrow morning, Network Ops is taking the matter up with Telkom and based on that outcome, I'll update later in the day tomorrow as I find out time lines (as possible).

Huge thanks to epiceye and PostManPat -- you guys not only helped us (Vox) but everyone here in the long run. From me personally, thank you.

Regards,
Chris

On a side note regarding the latency issue in Cape Town.

NetOps has decided that if Telkom doesn't help in time, they will manually configure the fix before/after the congestion hits Telkom's upload vlan to our IPC to make the experience better during that peak time (6pm+)

Keep in mind, this is a person doing it and it might not be done at the exact time each day and it's quite a task to set it up. This is a temporary thing until Telkom can resolve the issue properly.

Thanks for the continued investigation and troubleshooting on this Chris - I'm sure everyone here appreciates it. Getting Telkom to respond was always going to be the tough part. MyBB is constantly trawling for news stories - I wonder if some publicity regarding the issue and Telkom's unwillingness to acknowledge it / help would speed up their response?

As a matter of interest - how does the temporary fix work? Routing around the congested hop?
