I really agree with this, I am on 1mb home uncapped. My cancellation goes through today though because the old network was not good out of the box. The IS network currently feels leaps and bounds better it seems when it comes to gaming internationally (200-350ms EU). I could only test starcraft 2 and diablo 3 but it was the first time I've been able to play diablo 3 on inferno without dying to lag. Starcraft 2 was also fairly smooth compared to what used to be a jitter fest of annoyance and disconnects.

Youtube/Twitch at 360p is fine once you let it load a little bit (circa 5 seconds) and torrents run very close to line speed. Internet browsing so far seems fast and responsive.

I'm only on (40 gb~ this month) which is low for me so a little concerned that higher usage would degrade the performance in the aforementioned areas and from the home uncapped faq pretty randomly depending on the total network load.

However it seems like it is overall a really good improvement and product. The 2mb may even be worth the extra cost it has on telkom's. I am considering cancelling my cancellation or resigning after testing the waters.

The one thing that makes me weary of staying with WA is that it "doesn't recommend home uncapped for gaming" and doesn't seem to want to make it a priority. I know it runs on silver priority but meh I feel ill about it other isps do at least claim their product makes gaming a priority.

The star rating system is there to keep the network running smoothly.
So if someone is on a 1 star rating and you're on a 5 - along with the network being busy, you won't see much/ if any slow down on your end.

40GB's a month is fine, once we have some traffic data we'll be able to roughly allocate usage amounts to determine what star you will be on.

Gaming on Uncapped will be fine, our Home Uncapped accounts are sitting on a Silver priority, giving gaming a High priority.

On 4 meg line which is stable and syncs at 4 meg.

So Rebooted my router yesterday and got a 196 ip address. All seemed good.

This morning NNTP running at ~150KB/s

NO mail relay

Before I would use my Telkom SMTP ( with POP3 account login )from my WA account -- which worked OK
This is no longer working
My domain mail via Hetzner IS working OK
As a matter of interest what are the IS ADSL DNS IP's ?

I have always had poor speeds, .. normally 1mbps or less, despite paying for a 4mb line etc.

After new install, I am getting, 0.39mbps.

Using a 3g dongle, I get 3.4mbps .. but its more expensive.

I have given Web Africa a fair trot, but, despite good customer relations, my internet experience doesnt improve, and
I feel the R2k a mth, is now, just too much.

You'll need to update your SMTP server from SAIX to smtp.wa.co.za.
It's advised you use our DNS IP's.

We're looking at all issues. We migrated yesterday, which went very, very smoothly.
Justin will attend to issues and resolve for you. If the multitude of external factors didn't exist it would be simple to have an "internet connection that works as it is advertised"

By the looks of this tracert, there is either other activity (downloading etc) being done on the line at the time you ran this tracert or there are issues with your exchange. Hop 2, being your exchange, should not be this high. Hop 1 should also be >1ms, ideally.

As a matter of interest -- what device are you using for your first hop ?

Looks to me like you are in a gated community ?

Your second hop will give an indication of where you are situated ( different ESR for different areas )

I am in a house. No comlplex.

My laptop accesses the router, by wi-fi.

I have a Telkom line - just for the data .. I dont plus a telephone into the voice part.

I dont know what I am doing wrong .. what I do know, is that I would have paid R1000, for a webafrica techie, to come
to my premises, and tell me, what I am doing wrong.

I am in Paulshof, a suburb near Fourways, Johannesburg. Its a metropolitan area, and am about 200 yards from the Telkom Hub.

Your first hop -- to the router 10.0.0.2 ( private IP address ) should be less than 1milisec

Are you just using the default ( Telkom ) settings on the router ?
Try connecting your laptop directly to the PACE using a network cable
This way you cut out any possibility of the WiFi having a problem.

There are a number of options in the ping command

PING Command

Put out a plea for help in one of the forums -- lots of MyBB users in that area
You might get some help for a lot less than R1,000.00 :)

Get some good LIGHTENING PROTECTION !

I am using WA and all in all getting a good service.
