OFP 2

Oh my god, seems like this kicks Armed Assault's rear end out of the window. :D:D
Flying is awesome, editor is quite cool, very advanced.
Single player is smooth but this game took me almost 1 hour to install.

Yes definitely going to buy it but after Arma and their sh !t game and me paying for it twice and never using it, I was not going to take the chance.
This game however is awesome so far.

A bit of an issue with the graphics not rendering fast enough but have asked the OFP forums about that. Almost like the graphics are trying to catch up.
I am running:
Windows 7 64 bit
Intel Q9300
Intel Bonetrail MB
4 giogs DDR3 1600
Ati 3870 x2

Maybe you're just running the game to high :o:p. Hell of a lot of stuff to render in that game. How's the AI? As realistic as they claim.

I just received my Arma2 on Friday after waiting for it from UK since June! I'm loving it though. **** it looks beautiful!

Looking forward to checking this out too. It looked too arcadey for me judging by the '08 E3 vids but I saw they've added a 'hardcore' setting so maybe I'll like it.

Arma 2 just doesnt cut it with the flying - for me.
This game is awesome, easier and true to the OFP model IMO.
AI is very clever so far.

Haven't flown in Arma2 yet so I couldn't say but I agree, there's yet to be a shooter released where I'm satisfied with the flying. Arma1 was ok-ish with its helos but the problem was total lack of rudder authority at relatively low speed. Jets can **** in these games.

For flying I like Lock-On and Black Shark is excellent (checked out my brother's copy) although I'm waiting for them to release the A-10 before I actually buy it. What absolutely cannot be beaten when it comes to flying was IL-2. That game is about 6-7 years old and nothing has touched it with regard to flight model and damage model. Look out for Oleg's next pearl - released next year as 70th anni of the battle of Britain (Storm of War - Battle of Britain). There's not much info on it as of yet but they've been in dev for a good 4 years. That sim is going to blow socks off!

I have it, downloaded finished some point last night, but I can't play it till after my fitness evaluations tonight at base! ARG!!!

Wish the game would get released so I can own it already!!!

Does Arma2 have the same optimization and bug issues as the first game?

Playing OFDR on anything but hardcore is blasphemy

Alan, I only have maybe 5 hours in Arma2 but I can say this:

- I knew the game was a resource hog so I bought a new mid range GPU (GTX260 core 216) and I'm running the game on high (not ultra high, I didn't push this far) and it's very playable and looks great. I haven't noticed any "popping" or LOD issues at this point. My system is very modest (C2Duo 6400, 2GB ram, WinXP pro). Again, minimal time in-game but so far I'm more than happy.

- Character movement is improved and more fluid. No more clunky 'can't reload and move at the same time' BS etc. Ballistics seem improved to me also. Nice "puff" hit effect on trees and buildings etc. with appropriate delay and sound delay etc. Naturally, bullet drop is there too. Default sounds are far superior to the vanilla A1 sounds. I haven't yet felt the urge to add a sound mod like I did with A1.

- I'm impressed by my own AI so far. At first I couldn't really notice anything majorly different but then, if you know your Operation Flashpoint 1, you'll know the 'safe', 'aware', 'danger' commands etc. As soon as I put my squad into 'danger' mode, their behaviour changed drastically. I told them to move to a new position and they would send one guy and shout "go! I'm covering", he would run out to the next piece of cover and wait and cover and then the next guy and so on. They actually move to cover and watch their mate's back. I felt quite "looked after" when they were in this mode. The other thing about the enemy AI is that you no longer get the ol' insta head shot from 500m with an AK scenario. The firefights last. They will try and suppress you by firing on your position but are not super accurate like in A1. I DID get killed outright once so far from a distance but then again it was an insurgent with a scoped hunting rifle so I guess I can't complain.

-The one thing I don't like is the terrible voice acting. It's not really the voice acting itself but the way they've stitched together different generic phrases to make sense of the dynamic situation. Things like "ENEMYman...to ourFRONT!" (if that makes sense). I really wish someone would mod this because I'd buy them a case of beer! Problem is that's it's an epic amount of work I guess.

Bottom line is this: I don't mean to knock the new OFP because I don't even have it but if you've played and enjoyed the first OFP, then Arma 2 will be your game because the OFP1 devs are the Arma devs. Codemasters simply owned the rights to the name Operation Flashpoint. They published the first OFP, BI Studios developed it, as they did A1 and A2.

Going to the fleamarket this weekend, hope its good! Fingers crossed!
