Oh Brother - printer problem

Is this on win7? Win7 doesn't seem to handle printer drivers very well in my opinion.

Try this:
Go to control panel, admin, services. Scroll down the list till you find 'print spooler' right click it and stop service.
Then go to C: drive>Windows>system32>spool>drivers folder. There should be a folder in here called w32x86, rename this folder to w32x86OLD.
Then go back to your printers and devices and remove the brother printer from the list.
Go back to admin services list and restart the print spooler service.
Now install the printer driver/software from your disk or install file.

That should do the trick. Good luck

Yes, win 7 that's been kicked in the nuts by malware. Will give that a go, thanks for the tip!

Just in case you were wondering my client is running a mix of XP 32bit and Win7/8 32&64bit systems using the install packages I linked.

I bought a colour hp that is similar to that for 3.5k. Beast of a machine and it's colour. Setting the network with hp is the easiest thing i have ever done regarding networking :D.

Test the printer on another pc before reloading your entire system. When the tehcies booklets run out of ideas it is either a virus or corrupt OS. In no way am i saying he is wrong though.

I also bought an HP M1217nfw and if I remember correctly it installs directly from the internet without any issues. Have you tried to install the printer wirelessly rather than via USB - this seems to be the simplest option on the HP.

Tried that yesterday. It actually went through everything and only threw up an error when it tries to set as default printer at the end. Printing from word and adobe worked when manually choosing printer. Printing in live mail didn't work. And pastel wouldn't open because there was no default printer attached.

So the plan is to now just get a new machine. This thing is old anyway and probably going to keel over at any minute.

Have you tried to install the printer on a different computer? It may be simpler to reinstall after the initial install. Can you return the printer and get another brand? Personally I would not buy a new computer just to get this printer working.
