I don't have a Telkom line. Please see if my calculations are correct:

Installation of actual copper line: R468.05
Installation of ADSL service: R0.00 (self install)
Monthly line rental: R131.00 pm
Monthly DSL - 384kbps: R152.00 pm
Digichilli NO CAP: R300.00 pm

TOTAL: R583.00 pm

How long should Telkom take to install?
How many full length, DVD quality movies will I be able to download per month? Realistically?

384 line, u can download around 90 gigs a months, and will probaly be online all the time.
left on during the night is around 1-2 gigs

I got my installation free because I ordered closer 2 package. Then cancelled closer 2 when the line was installed.

same here. and it was all done (incl line install, afrihost activation, adsl activation) within 5 days.

It's probably cheaper to get a discovery medical aid, pay vitality and go watch movies.

I have 4Mb uncapped and I still like using my vitality to go watch movies. Otherwise I'd rather stream it. What are people going to do? Scoop my brains out after watching? If it's something worth watching as a movie, go enjoy it on the big screen rather.

Everyone to themselves. Personally I get a better experience out of my home theater.

A dvd movie is around 3-4GB( a day or two each), I personally download the 700mb dvdrips..

then->

Quite a few, you will be able to download 2X 700mb rips in one night. If you can max out the line you can get around 3gb a day. ;) so say 4 movies a day..

So you can expect to download 120 a month, but there is nothing worth downloading imho...

This is how I would use the internet on my DigiChilli uncapped. Do you see any problems?

1. Skype video at least 60 minutes per month.
2. Download each new movie that pops onto the Box Office top 10 list.
3. Download 1 or 2 series.
4. Surf the internet for hours and hours on 2 laptops and 3 mobile phones.
5. Download at least 100 new songs per month.
6. Play Wii online for at least 10 hours per month.
7. Play PS3 online for at least 10 hours per month.

1. You cannot fart.
2. You cannot smoke.
3. You cannot pause to get up and look in the fridge.
4. You cannot simply walk out if it is crap, since it cost you so much time, money and effort.
5. You cannot shout and scream when stuff happens.
6. You have to be in a crowd.

That's there standard commitment. Depending on where you are it will be much quicker.
