I told Telkom I wanted my line installed in the 13th November (it was the tenth ...so 2 and a bit days notice)...on the 13th at 08h00 techie came to install and it was a done deal...and was free on my Closer 3 Package. That day I applied for my 4meg ADSL. Surprised that it was up and running less that 24 hours later! (...and that was free too cos it was a self install!)

They also gave me the std 21 day story, but I followed up every day with the same person at the Telkom shop .... being friendly works wonders!
 
I am on the phone with Telkom now for the third time. They they have no knowledge of me applying for the line yesterday. Now I am going through the process again. Hopefully I will get an sms with order reference this time.

EPIC FAIL for service from Telkom.

Yes. When I had to book this installation with Telkom the second time, I actually did not scream at the operator. It was very difficult for me. This time I got the order ref immediately. Now the whole process of them having to SMS have vanished. Strange.

Did I say how much I HATE Telkom? Just double checking....

You are right. I am slightly irritated by them for making me call 3 times to be able to be their client. I accept that they cannot help it and that government is to blame.
 
Almost R600 a month for Internet access is insanely high and just to much.
And I'm referring to the R283 part of that for line rental.

Is anybody willing to boycott this BS?
You may as well get DSTV for that and you'll never see the sun either...

Hint: Apply for line with Closer 2 package(R170 pm), they will waver installation cost. Once line is installed, you could cancel the closer package if you wish! Then go for the Self install option and Digichilli (Total cost with Closer 2 package and 384k dsl, R622 pm, without closer package R583)

Yes, you're right, line rental is a biatch! No, pointless to boycott, but none the less, welcome to the forum, and join us all bitchin and moaning so we can get them to unbundle the local loop! ;)

Otherwise, if you're really hard up for line rental, check out SAOL's Uncapped 384k including line rental for R499pm! Even tho I'm not happy with regards to line migration etc (if you're an existing phone line customer with telkom) but heck, its a good deal!

That works out to R630. More expensive than DiggiChilli's R583.

like I said, R622 with the Closer 2 Package, R583 without! R499 all inclusive without Closer 2 package via SAOL - the only snag, you have to transfer your line management over to SAOL (apparently at no cost) and news servers don't work via their account unless you register with a 3rd party news service overseas!

DigiChilli without Closer 2 package on 384k line with 256k uncapped account = R583
SAOL with 384k line with 384k uncapped account = R499

NO! With SAOL the R131 for line rental is still extra, so it is R499+R131=R630.
