OK, there's something VERY wrong here...

For the past 2 or 3 days I have been unable to access the myADSL forums, nor the myADSL website, and when I am capable of accessing it, it goes VERY slow and then times out. Naturally, as I am located in South Africa I would expect a South African site to be blazingly fast, but this is not so, and I think it's because of Telkom.

You see... when I use my proxy to access this site, it suddenly works, but when I don't, *poof* slow access and difficulty getting into myADSL. Either Telkom has broken something, making access to certain local sites unbearably slow, or they've decided to do something far more sinister and blacklist myADSL, making it nearly impossible to access it.

Or it's just a DNS problem with Telkom, because I get many DNS errors when I resolve the myADSL.co.za domain when not using my proxy.

As it stands, at the moment I'm having to resort to moving all my .za traffic out of South Africa and back in... far less efficient, but at least it works.

(Yes, I'm typing this thanks to the proxy I'm using.)

Other members complained to me in email about similar problems. I don’t know what the problem might be since I can access MyADSL perfectly, and hope that it is a temporary problem that will be fixed soon. Thanks for making this public.

I was completely unaware of this fact. That must have happened recently with the change of hosting companies. This is unacceptable…I am paying much higher fees for hosting locally for the specific purpose of making it available to capped users. If this is the case I will definitely move to another hosting company. Thanks for making me aware of this.

Hi Microfast

I just checked the IP and they did move my site to the US (Washington, DC) without informing me. I am truly surprised. I am paying for local hosting, but one can get the same hosting overseas for less than a third of the price. They obviously decided to quietly move the site over to make some easy money...very sad.

If anybody knows of a trustworthy hosting company in South Africa please let me know. I think after all these problems it is time to move.

Thanks for the great offers. It is heartwarming to see that there are still so many noble people out there. I am certain we will be able to find a better hosting option at a local company that is slightly more honest than the current hosting guys.
