Can one just like pitch up at an old age home and offer to just sit and talk to those people ?
It could be worth a try. I'm sure they'd be overjoyed at the prospect of having someone to talk to.

At times I think 60 would be a good time to shuffle off this mortal coil.

No way. 60 is still a good age. My grandfather is 83 now and he still moves about, likes to go places and visit people in Oudshoorn where he stays with my grandmother in their own house.

My grandmother is 82 and she still does her own gardening and loves to cook and bake.

Just look after yourself and you'll be healthy and fit for much longer :)

I'm not planning on getting old before my time...90+ for me :p

My fathers 72 and still is fit and going, he does make sure he exercises and takes care of himself.
My mom was telling me yesterday her friends mother is 76 and in hospital on oxygen etc etc and is like a zombie.
Scarey how a little bit of exercise can keep you fit and healthy and looking far better than those that do nothing.

When I lived with my parents we had 3 80+ year old ladies living in the house. My one gran pretty much just slept in her bed all day. My other gran and her sister kept each other company but when my gran's sister passed away her mental health declined rapidly.

Having seen what happens to you, I am doing my best to make sure that I am still independent and mentally together until the day I die. You will definitely see some kind of mental and physical deterioration, but I'll be damned if I'm going to end up sitting in a chair staring at a TV all day...

Could be the very same thought that the current TV starers had when they were young.

Life doesn't always work out the way you expect it to.

Staying active is the key...do yoga, low impact activities, be kind to yourself, stay fit, have a healthy lifestyle...always makes me wonder, this crossfit craze...what impact does that sort of strenuous activity have on the body, in the long run ? Ageing is part of life, can not defer it....if it does get really bad, strapping my id to my thigh and walking into the ocean....

Yes, it is bad to get old. My Mom is 84. Up until now, she has been very sprightly, still drives etc, but recently she has become very depressed and lonely (she lives in another town). She has also had a number of bad falls. :(

Many of us I'm sure have made a joke or two about what we'll be like when we're old. Cranky and horny old goats :D I know I have.

However this morning my world got shaken a little after a business visit to a local old age home. What caught my attention was the many old people sitting on their own all over the place. One woman, maybe 85 yrs old, sat in a wheelchair by herself starring out a window. Others sat in the "sun room" just gazing into the distance.

It made me wonder. What's going through their minds in times like that? Are they going back in time with memories of the hay days when the body was young and life was great? Or perhaps they're thinking about the children who don't visit anymore. Anyway I think it's a sad thing being very old [and alone] and the sight of these seniors this morning made the rest of my day a very ****ty experience.

Yes, a depressing thought. This is highlighted by my own youth. You tend to get wrapped-up in your own life and family. The oldies do not get much attention. The wheel turns and then you are in that position. The children’s book “The Waterbabies” has a character, ‘Mrs. Be-Done-By- As-You-Did’. I dread this.

My Dad is 93 later this year, my Mom is 92. They live on their own in a small house in the UK.
I'm 63. I retired at 59, and am loving it.
The day I have to move to a old-age/care facility is probably the day I will top myself. Hopefully that's not in the near future. I enjoy life too much, and the many wine farms we have nearby makes life even more enjoyable. My SO does not drink, so getting back from my regular wine tastings & lunch at a wine estate is no problem, with her driving. Also, Van Loveren Wine Estate cooks the best Fillet steak I have ever tasted. I have many more of those still to eat before I am ready to die

Let us know if you feel the same when you turn 50, and realize its a 10....9....8....7.... scenario!

Not everyone ages the same. Some people are the equivalent of 80 when they hit 50. I believe I'll be one of those. The live fast, die young idea. I'm ok with that. :)
