My Dad is 93 later this year, my Mom is 92. They live on their own in a small house in the UK.
I'm 63. I retired at 59, and am loving it.
The day I have to move to a old-age/care facility is probably the day I will top myself. Hopefully that's not in the near future. I enjoy life too much, and the many wine farms we have nearby makes life even more enjoyable. My SO does not drink, so getting back from my regular wine tastings & lunch at a wine estate is no problem, with her driving. Also, Van Loveren Wine Estate cooks the best Fillet steak I have ever tasted. I have many more of those still to eat before I am ready to die

Living in the UK is different. The elderly get numerous benefits including free public transport, subsidised heating, bingo, dances etc. It's perfectly normal for an old lady carrying a basket to stroll down to the local grocer. Their pension money pays for the odd luxury and maybe an annual holiday.

No benefits in SA and when last did you hear of a pensioner who is able to live on his monthly payout? My dad began contributing to a very reputable pension fund when he was young and continued paying until he died a wealthy man a few years ago. Take a guess at what his payouts would have been had he retired? ........ R3000pm!

Inflation is the killer here.
