You need a battery to run a firmware update on a laptop? Why not just use a bench power supply if it is a one time thing??

I don't know it is safe. Besides, if smart battery interface is not responding, it will behave the same as without battery. Having the same problem without battery on Lenovo T500 and looking for old compatible battery for this notebook. If only keeps power for 5 minutes (required for saving jobs) it is fine.

Some battery packs do not work due to the protection chip lockup. Cells might be still good. If cells are not good, can be repacked with new cells.

Can I join in please, anyone have some dead laptop batteries to donate, I'm looking for one or 2, the newer the better I just want the cells inside.
