Yes, its easy to replace the batteries, but they often make up half the cost of a UPS.

As it arrives, can I test the batteries somehow?

1. Check production date?
2. What should an initial Multimeter reading be?
3. Initial charge time before use?

The only way to properly test the charging capacity of a lead-acid battery is to discharge it under load or normal use. You may be lucky, and other methods may offer useful guidance, but there is no certainty otherwise.

They should come with a 6-12 month limited warranty, but for anything longer than that you're on your own.
