I'd suggest you compare the number of stockists and service centers for Olympus. Price and quality are less important if you have an issue that requires local support.

Seems I'm extremly brand consious : I've been looking at a dSLR for a few months and *only* looked at Canon.

Maybe I should glance at the Nikon, Sony and Olympus models

Olympus makes good cams, the non-kit lenses are also superb. Secondly Olympus has worldwide warranty, so you can buy from overseas for cheap without worries as long as you retain the invoices and customs papers.
