OMG WTF Speeds

rebel you trying to throttle yourself is admirable... but yup when hasnt it been wbs's mistake? if you should be throttled and you not who is at fault?
We all know they're going to blame me.

Think they're still messing around, battling with IMAP at the moment. Had super speeds download during the day however.

I meant 565kBIT/sec.... that was a typo. I am sorry

iBurst was K@K last night so I disconnected and went to bed! They're doing things on their network again or someone, somewhere with a 2 meg line is abusing bandwidth somewhere in SA again
Who's to blame? The bandwidth hogs that aren't getting throttled?
Blaming other users won't get you anywhere. The guys that were getting full speeds last night might as well blame the guys that were getting slow speeds. :p

read my post, don't skim through it and jump to conclusions. I did not say iBurst users are abusing the network. I can't be blamed as I am currently disconnected and, to be nice to everyone I stopped downloading for the month. Blame Telkom for not providing enough bandwidth overseas!

No problem. I just don't want WBS blaming us for their problems again.

Yeah, well if WBS blame me for their problems or even disconnect me you'll see how I shove a UTD up someone's ass at WBS. I am not in a good mood this week!

It's still a mystery how this bandwidth manager (not)works. Some uncapped people get what they are paying for, for others it sucks, some capped people are getting sub modem speeds, others fly while capped...and as makedon says, it is funny AND frustrating. Maybe we should slow ourselves down by finding the worst spot with the highest frame error rate? :p

Well, for the past couple of days I have been capped. I have a huge amount of files sitting in flashget, and they pretty much tick over at average 7kB/s like they are supposed to.

But this morning when I checked my PC my entire download list had magically teleported itself to my harddrive. Looks like sometime after 10 last night my speeds shot up to 80kB/s and stayed there till 4 this morning when the files ran out.

Which is nice and all, but I am now very close to the "3GB over the 3GB" line.
So I guess I am abusing the network again... in my sleep.

The bandwidth manager is a piece of software that is causing huge headache for WBS. It's not set up correctly, there's no techsupport so WBS carry on working in darkness and so they turn it off until they get more response/help from the vendor and then they try again, a few days later only to see helpdesk suddenly get so busy they can't cope with all the incoming complaints that the network is now broken. They've entered a negative value into the software so you have to go over cap (which is damn difficult at sub 3kbyte/sec speeds) to start flying.

To WBS: Catch a wake up and READ here what is going on with your network! Get people in to help you sort out your problems

Yeah, agreed, but it is strange that a piece of software so vital to their operation wasn't even tested properly. What were they thinking? It's like a bank installing an ATM with faulty software - you ask for R50 but get R500, BUT they expect you to know that this is a problem and you should immediately deposit R450 back again so that there is enough money left for the next person to draw....

Agreed Jerry, wonder what they were actually doing in the testing phase..

Yeah
I am in the electronics industry and this with WBS and it's bandwidth manager and their equipment problems are becoming an all-too-familliar pattern. Local agents don't know squat about the products/systems and then have to talk via e-mail to the vendor/publisher and so it goes back and forth for MONTHS on end.

How are your speeds guys. The bw manager's still not working. I should be throttled & had to disconnect last night for fear of getting suspended.

has anyone called to say they should be trottled but aren't.

My speeds are back tonight... not as fast as always but much better than last night. I am a bit far from the tower. Busy working on an antenna design to rectify matters

Well, I downloaded over 1/2 Gig International tonight, and the speeds were amazing. Even on single threads.
