Hi guys

I received my Samsung Omnia a week ago and although I am really happy with the phone, I am very dissapointed with the battery life.

I have triple checked that everything is off (3G, Wifi, bluetooth) and none of my apps are scheduled to do anything automatically, but I only get about 24 hours worth of idle/standby time. This is drastically reduced when I actually do something with the phone. I have read elsewhere on this forum (including international forums) that people generally get between 3 and 4 days of battery life with their Omnia's - is this really the case?

I have also read that the ROM version makes a huge difference to the battery life. I got my phone on a Vodacom contract and my ROM version is XXHH1/JBHH1 and BUHH1. What ROM version does the MTN Omnia come out with and could that version not result in better battery life?

Has anybody tried manually flashing their ROM?

Is there something I am missing (a setting somewhere) or do I have a faulty battery? Or should I just accept this is normal and move on?

Regards

When I got my SE P990 I had Vodacom flash the phone with the original SE software. The phone ran tons better after that. Maybe take the phone to Vodacom and get them to install the original Samsung software. Hopefully that might sought your problem. Vodacom/Vodaphone software is cr@p.

Maybe you got a dud, it shouldn't be that crap even with a crappy rom. My old tytn with a worn out battery gets better batery life than that. I vote take it back! A good light rom will still only increase battery life very slightly not the 2days ur looking for.

GSM arena states that standby time is up to 500 hours....
You seriously got the one the branch manager's son has been playing with since launch date :D
Did it come with mxit "pre-installed", thats how u know :p

What do you mean by idle? Pressing the power button for a short time?

If so, then you've got a dud battery, in my opinion. On Standby, over 24 hours, my Omnia used 1% of battery power.

With idle I mean that the phone is on, keypad is locked and lcd is off - i.e. ready to receive a call, but not running any applications etc. My Omnia loses almost 50% battery power overnight while Im sleeping.

I just went to my nearest Vodacom outlet during lunch and they also told me I should return the phone. Luckily I am still within my first 7 days. Hopefully they don't take to long though.

that does sound a bit rough. My Touch Diamond (and we all know HTCs are not the best when it comes to battery life) drops with about 3% when left overnight

Hi Guys, any of you with the MTN Omnia flashed it with another ROM? Is there a way to keep the legitamate Garmin on your phone? eg there's a place you can find the serial/license file and use it to re-install?

1) samsung suck battery wise
2) do you use it up, recharge to full, use it up, etc, or do you charge whenever, even if not empty (Especially if a new phone)
3) people who get new phones play a lot with them at first, it might be that?

You should have got a CD with a Garmin restore on it for the phone.

I also experience the same battery problems - no longer than 24 hours. And nope, I dont play with it, it just dies all by itself. Think I got the same bad batch than pjmyburg got.

@pjmyburg - you got yours swapped out yet?

Omnia battery life problems all over the world!

Yes, I've got the exactly same problem. From Greece. i900BDHI2/ BDHI2 greek rom, 8GB.
There are many on our forums with the same exact symptoms!! We have the same problem. I was so surprised when the morning I had 50% off! Come on! The resellers they have the same politics here too, within the first 7 days they replace it... The NEWS is that they said that Samsung told them that must have 8 cycle discharge and full recharge (mobile off and 12 hours!!) before the battery shows its capacity... They calculated perhaps that this way no way that you stay in the timeline of 7 days but fall out... and than go to the Samsung service and wait... and wait... and wait... and who knows what! This smartphone I really like, I don't wanna get something else..., the only (ugly) thing is the battery problems. What's gonna be?

No, I don't think so. I had mobile phones, pocket pc's, laptops ect., but nothing like that and in such a scale... Dudes here taking back to change the Omnia because they smartphone off in less than a day... (and there aren't any spare batteries on the shelfs yet? Who would thought that coming!)
I love the Omnia that is something for sure, except this "thing" with the battery life. Ahh, and when they are taking back the Omnia to the service they asking if anybody has returned it as well... ,the men at the service would reply to them... "no, you are the first" or like "ahh, there is someone who came back but it was about a bad pixel"...
We are on the forum talk with each other to solve questions, different problems ect. and is funny to see how they manipulate the whole thing about the "battery crisis"... is it?
