One kid, one computer

J'sus!! You guys can never see the good in anything. I think it is an absolutely brilliant initiative, or even dream, to give every child access to the internet.

We all know that the internet is an absolute gold mine of information. all my research nowadays is done on the internet and yet those of us privileged enough to have access take it for granted. Our lives are run by technology and computers are integral to this. Having access to computers during your schooling is becoming as necessary as it used to be to have access to reading material. You may spend most of your time searching for porn but when my 9 year old gets on there the search is usually for dinosaurs, the solar system, volcanoes or the like!

I know it is the nature of most on this forum to merely take the piss out of anything that is posted and not discuss it constructively so I do bear this in mind when posting this response. I do however feel myself that this is a wonderful initiative. Most of you bleat on about how you want to do your bit and make your voice heard in making this country a better place... believe me, educating the children of your future is a giant step in the right direction.

Just the 50 % discount for schools shows the level of stupidity of the whole issue, why bother upfront with useless forms of price related one liners about something where no one has any idea what sort of consequences it has.

Let the marketforces decide what sort of packages they want to offer to schools and what sort of technology and creativity will be available and is it not time to drop the whole story as integration of pc's and related products in the society for multiple applications and one wonders when other projects will be launched such as about
e-payment, identity papers and licenses, multimedia and whatever else.

education is of such a dramatic low level at this stage, so better start there before
wasting good money

somehow 1 kid three meals a day sound way better. education is important too teach them make them earn it
