One-price ADSL pricing comparison

Not sure I understand the reason for the article?

No news atm. So this is a filler article.

In other news, as someone has already mentioned, Do Broadband 2 (R258) is 384k. Bad research is bad.

Once again you've forgotten about the 30GB local included in Telkom's Do3

I found the article very useful.
That 4MB / 5GB offering (R500) from Web Africa is damn good.

+1
I find it funny that @lantic 512/5 is more expensive than WA 4/5. Who in his right mind would want to go to them?

Based on that article, I wouldve SERIOUSLY considered looking into Do Broadband 2 + a little mweb uncapping, but alas .. its not 512 as reported, Come on guys, did the fact that the Telkom price was about 30% cheaper than all the others not ring any alarm bells for the reporter ??

no mention of the bundled packages from cybersmart and webafrica? titan complete (i think thats the name) and the cybersmart weekender basic and weekender plus???

also - some of the uncapped account providers also offer bundled packages?

Well since the 4MB/25Gb is only R100 more than 512k/5Gb it's certainly worth considering for anyone with that budget.

The article is a bit pointless, probably just to have a new heading on the front page. The writers of this kind of comparison should also include the additional costs, like the Telkom tax in a seperate colomn complete with total cost per month. That way people can have a full idea of what it actaully costs to have a DSL connection. Just displaying the price from the ISP is misleading.

Any advertising for ADSL should include all the hidden costs, especially the Telkom tax. This is especially true for new users who has never before applied for DSL. New users might have no idea of all the red tape that faces one when trying to get ADSL. Imagine my surprise/disgust when I tried to apply for ADSL a few months ago only to find out how fragmented the whole process was. It would be helpfull if public can be eduated about the hurdles in applying for DSL access. No wonder your average user goes wireless. Less hassle, less waiting time and they are ready to go. And for just basic access, it's cheaper too because there is no Telkom tax.

Under about 1.5GB / month it works out cheapest to go mobile. Also, you get a theoretical max of 21Mbps on mobile but only 4Mbps on ADSL.

Also Telkom DO 384 gives you 2 gigs? Not 1? Also no mention of the free local?

You missed a biggie

Probably the best entry-level / low end price out there at the moment:

Cybersmart - 384k, 10GB cap, uncapped over weekends - R 199!!!!

i have no phone line will they also install one for me? guess not, telkom have that on hold for over 36months now.

How good/reliable are the services offered by Cybersmart? compared to MWEB?
