One-price ADSL pricing comparison

Probably the best entry-level / low end price out there at the moment:

Cybersmart - 384k, 10GB cap, uncapped over weekends - R 199!!!!

Thats an awsome price, but whats the use you have speed of 384k. Pointless for me as iam use to proper speed at work and on 3G. Going 384 would just give me a stroke when i have to wait that long if i wana watch a youtube clip or watching sport over the net. Downloading is not th biggest issue, but streaming is important for me. I would rather go for the Webafrica R499 4Mb line plus 5G included and just topup with another 5-10gig, depends on my usage for the month. Oh and i forgot to add Telscum for raping me with R130 each month. So that would make it R630. If Webafrica allows me to add more bandwith according to my needs and usage i will sign up gladly. What will be even better if Webafrica give me a deal of say R530-R550 inclusive with DSL line plus 15GB for the month. That means i have to fork out just under R700 which will suit me nicely.

Why can't the ISP's also include the line rental in the whole thing. It would make it so much easier for everyone. The ISP's would then pay Telkom the Line rental and the DSL line. Much less paperwork for Telkom and would make it easier for all internet users.

Any thoughts on this guys

+1
I find it funny that @lantic 512/5 is more expensive than WA 4/5. Who in his right mind would want to go to them?

was with @lantic for the last 5 yrs. until i woke up this yr when i realised that every year my subscription goes up, except my mailbox size is still 10mb. then dumped them when they wanted me to pay more to increase my mailbox size.

Telkom's line rental product is their base offering, there are about 12 products that you can add to the line rental, do you want the ISP's to take over those ~12 other products as well?

I agree that's terribly slow, but the article was about the best deals, including low end / entry level deals, and I thought I should mention this one. It's great for non-heavy users. I know 3 people who've already converted to it.

How good/reliable are the services offered by Cybersmart? compared to MWEB?

Well, the bandwidth is always unshaped (no throttling during peak hours) and they have GREAT contention ratios.
As far as helpdesk - pretty good, although they can be a bit slow. They will sort you out eventually.

What download speeds are we looking at on 384k, +-40kb p/s. Can you actually stream anything on that speed. So that means you can download a 4mb file in 1m40sec if i am correct. Pity though as 3G is minimum 3 times on average faster then 384k.

R199 (which includes bandwith and DSL line if i am right)
+
R130 line rental
=
R230 for 10GB unshaped and weekends uncapped and unshaped

Pretty awsome deal
What would be nice if they can make it a 4mb line and charge R400

Honestly, in my (unfortunately very recent) experience before I got my new line upgraded, 384k is torture. I wouldn't even bother trying to stream stuff, although I did manage to download 4GB one weekend, which I thought wasn't bad. Anyway, now I'm up to a slightly less torturous 512Kb and hoping Telkom bumps me up to 1mb soon.
*laments not having a 4mb line anymore*

Actually, it's R299.

OOPS!
You're right. It's R199 for the 2 gig cap, but still with uncapped over weekends. Still the best entry-level deal out there, IMHO.
