Ok so tell me what you'd think of the following idea.

First night spent in Plett, then the day after into Tsitsikamma, then a drive through to PE the following day, spend maybe three days there getting into The Addo Elephant Park (guided game drive and a braai or whatever) and Kraggakamma (self game drive).

Just have to consider places to stay in the PE area.

How long is the drive from Plett to PE?
Have not been down the Garden Route on my own steam in ages!
Plett to PE - 250km - couple hours drive.

Knysna's nice too - maybe stay there rather than Plett?

If you're looking for camping etc, near to Addo try this place just outside of PE - http://www.pearsonpark.co.za/9.The_Resort.html - been there a few times.

True I've always loved Knysna, just thought about getting an early start time for Tsitsikamma and Plett's closer. :shrugs:

Have to re-install Garmin on my phone and start looking at some distances.

Got some leave in for next month.

So basically off work from 06-09 till 14-09.

Just need to get away from the office and out of town.

Usually I'd be up for a camping trip (and it's still a possibility) but may be looking for a bungalow or decent bed to pass out on.

Trying to get one or two mates to go along, but will go fscking solo if I have to.
Need to get away from city life!

Need some time in nature, a braai and some light hiking and light self game driving. (No 4x4 trails )

I was thinking Tsitsikamma National Park as I've always wanted to and I hear it's beautiful.
Or there's that other Park in the Kalahari somewhere.

Anyway - busy on SANPARK's site at the moment for Tsitsikamma National Park, but if you have been there and know of a holiday solution that's not too costly, please drop some info in here or via PM.

Check out Natures Valley. There is NOBODY out there and tons og stuff to do because if the sea and the lagoon. It's pretty reasonable as well.

It's pretty small: http://www.sanparks.org/parks/tsitsikamma/tourism/tariffs.php

Forest Hut (FH2) is the one to look for on that list, 5th one down.

An idea I thought of now - to go SuperSaver Holiday is that my one friend has family in Plett and Kimberly.
So another option is to crash with his cousins and then drive out to the Parks in the area or whatever other activities we want to do on an daily basis :D

The one cousin from Kimberly was down here recently and his right up my alley as a mad party person - I just have to detox my liver before going up there.
Augrabies is also a nice park that I've heard of.

So more investigations in the morning...

Ya, the forest hut is what I stayed in. Bit like a more solid tent - there is electricity but not much else. Communal ablutions and kitchen facilities. When we went it poured with rain for the 1st day so it was nice not to be in a tent...

Swakopmund isn't that far from CT.
I'm headed that way soon. :)

Jeez Namibia!
I wouldn't know where to start and I don't think a week would be enough time!
Seen some pics from a peep here that's been to Etosha if I'm not mistaken and it certainly looks awesome.
But will have to plan a longer trip for that...

Great idea though!
Or am I being naive about the driving time to Namibia?

Yeah great idea. I did the trip to PE on my way back to PMB in December. I love the Knysna/Wilderness area. If you're adventurous on your way back you can avoid the N2 by going up to Oudtshoorn. There's a nice dirt road just before Cango Caves that goes along the Swartberg with plenty of wildlife including game. Also a nice secluded damn there to check out. About 30kms long IIRC. You end up at Calitzdorp back on the R62.

Yeah I'm definetly going down the Garden Route now and was thinking about the following.

I want to do tsitsikamma (hate that spelling, thank God for copy+paste), Natures Valley, Storms River, Kaggakamma and Addo. Perhaps do the Cango Caves and Croc farm in Outdshooorn, but have really done that plenty of times as a kid.

Now I was thinking about trading off for a central base to stay in for the first few stops along the way. So spend a few days in a central area that would allow me time to drive and explore tsitsikamma, Natures Valley and Storms River for the first two or three days.

And then I was thinking of staying at Kaggakamma for another two days.
Self Game drive there and then also a short drive off to the addo for either a guided or self game drive.
Read that Addo also has braai areas for the day near a watering hole.

Any suggestions on the central base idea?

No specific suggestions, but you can't go wrong with Nature's Valley and Storm's River - both are epic.

Just make sure you have pics of you jumping off Bloukrans ;)

We won't believe you otherwise

FFS!

I always wanted to, but have put on a few KG's :p :D
Also was worried about my left knee which tends to dislocate after it broke (only when highly active)

But have checked the Bloukrans site and they now use a full body harness.

Still - freaky jump that! :erm:

There's a place before Bloukrans where you swing under a bridge in a harness. I'm sure somebody with a dodgy knee and carrying a few extra KGs can manage that one. You can also go in pairs so you'll have somebody to cling on to :p:D
