One week left for Office 2003

Drop XP support

I guess you abandoning those notebooks that gave XP, and your business so much life.

Good thing im starting to learn linux.

I have never needed support on any microsoft product, the possibility of not getting support for office 2003 will not make me stop using it...

Maybe I am just missing the big picture.

I think included in the term "support" would be service packs... that's the problem. As for help support, they useless at that anyways.

That is a good thing :).

The fact that Microsoft is dropping mainstream support [such as it alleges to be] for both heXPee and Orifice2003, at the same time, might just be the final straw that pushes users towards a Linux desktop alternative. As with Vista, playing this card could backfire on Microsoft.

How so, windows 7 is an amazing OS and it is the new windows xp. Vista was just a middle stop for people to get used to the idea, now the real business comes along. Infact i think microsoft have a system that will make the linux die hards change their minds. It is faster than xp and has drivers for everything. They are gambling on windows 7 being huge, i think they knew before vista was released it was a failure but the feedback on windows 7 has been nothing but praise and excitement unlike vista, windows 7 is going to be their biggest OS ever i think.

Didn't Microsoft recently announce that those who skipped Vista and went straight to Windoze7, would be disadvantaged in some way?

I don't have an opinion on Windoze7 and will not try it unless someone is willing to sponsor the download.

People that bought Vista must feel done in then.... measuring Vista in the (alledged) brilliant light of Win 7. Why then Vista......? Why then not just skip Vista, kept XP for that time anyway sold thousands more (and saved face), and then come with the master piece??

I think the answer (as allways) is money.

I also think that fasion (to have the in thing) plays a role in this..... People will pay money they do not have, for things they do not need just to be seen having it....... Naturally no one at MBB fall in that generalization

M$ molded the worlds computer using population into a form and to break out of that form is going to take a lot more than a world economic crisis.........
M$ my even do that themselves to force their loyal support into the arms of Open Source if they dont do someting about their prices

not going to miss office2003 much. XP is still widely used, perhaps a poll would show us how many around here is still using it?

One would wonder what's gonna happen to the massive Co. using XP... are they gonna drop it just like that!

Why do people STILL use MS Office? Get OpenOffice for crying out loud!!!

I think they are trying to get sales but also going from windows xp to vista/windows 7 is quite a leap, nothing serious just matter of working on it for a couple of weeks to get to know it.

Dude you should get windows 7, find someone in your area who has a copy because i thought windows xp was good and vista but linux could run with both of them i thought, i do not think linux has a sniff now and people turning away from windows will stop, only the die hard linux okes won't take to windows 7. Man i cannot tell you how good windows 7 is.

Office 2007 is so much better than Office 2003.
And XP will be available long enough until Windows7 is released.
Support is not that big a deal. They are still doing updates for Windows 2000.

Not a real issue imo. Just the opensource fanbois trying to make a ruckus about nothing with their false advertising. If I were them I wouldn't try and sell it that much, since once it becomes the target of hackers and virus makers, they will learn their lesson.

Anyways, bleh.

if you dont like the interface office 2007 has, there is a patch that allows you to use it with the old toolbars etc.

Pm me for links.

Big companies will eventually upgrade or move on. It's the SMME segment I'm concerned about. I know of small companies still happily using 2003, and not in any position (or mood) to upgrade.

Yes, Windows 7 is good, but 2007 offers nothing new besides a new interface and a new format (I hate docx). Bleh indeed, but not for the reasons you think.

Agreed. It's brilliant!

SMME's must evolve or die. Competition is tough, so they need to move with the times.

Sidenote - Office / Outlook 2007 wasn't just built as a standalone product. It has specifically been built for Exchange 2007. The integration is vastly superior to anything Office / Outlook 2003 and Exchange 2003 had.

Open office is terrible! It cant even open spread sheets with more than 200 000 rows. Its spelling dictionary is shocking. And it constantly crashes.
