New year, new OnePlus topdog, roll in 11.

OnePlus 11 comes with Snapdragon 8 Gen 2, improved Hasselblad cameras

Ahead of its global debut on February 7 the OnePlus 11 was officially announced in its home Chinese market. Despite lacking a Pro in its name the phone is a fully-fledged flagship with the latest and greatest chipset, memory, and cameras.

The SoC is Snapdragon 8 Gen 2, and OnePlus executives said on stage the chipset will be fully operational at its maximum capacity. Normally that wouldn't be a noteworthy remark, but it could well indicate that OnePlus is done with its past practices of limiting performance to boost battery life and keep thermals in check.

The phone comes with 12GB or 16GB of the latest LPDDR5X RAM and 256GB or 512GB of UFS 4.0 storage.

The OnePlus 11 is built around a new 6.7" LTPO 3.0 AMOLED display with 1440p resolution. It can refresh at 1Hz to 120Hz refresh rate with over 100 apps promised to support the granular adjustment.

The Hasselblad camera set on the back of the OnePlus 11 has been upgraded to a 50MP main Sony IMX890 sensor with multidirectional PDAF and OIS. There is a 48MP ultrawide-angle Sony IMX581 shooter with autofocus that allows you to serve a macro camera, and a 32MP Sony IMX709 2x telephoto camera.

The 16MP selfie camera is sitting inside a punch hole in the upper left corner.

Not a fan of that circular camera array.

Specs are super impressive though.

I wouldn't mind picking one of these up as my next upgrade.

Currently 2 years in on the 7T Pro and still love this phone.

OnePlus 11 breaks pre-sales records in China, OnePlus 11 Pro won't exist

The OnePlus 11 got official for the Chinese market less than 24 hours ago, ahead of its global introduction next month. And it seems like it's already incredibly successful, more so in fact than any previous OnePlus device before it.

According to OnePlus China President Li Jie, the OnePlus 11 broke pre-sales records for the brand after just two hours. The first actual sale will take place on January 9, and at this rate we assume it will be a glaring success - expect many units to be purchased in mere minutes, and a "sold out" notice to be put up soon after, as is customary in the Chinese market.

Interestingly, responding to a user on Weibo, China's Twitter equivalent, Li practically stated outright that there won't be a OnePlus 11 Pro, with the OnePlus 11 intended to take the place of the Pro model from previous years. Of course things can always get lost in translation, especially translation of the automated machine variety, so do take this with a little bit of salt.

We wouldn't be totally surprised to see a OnePlus 11 Pro down the line sometime, but we also wouldn't bet on that as things stand, with the company itself saying there's no such device coming.

OnePlus 11 global variant appears on Geekbench

The OnePlus 11 is already out in China and we’re also expecting its international debut on February 7 at the Cloud 11 launch event which will take place in New Delhi, India. While we wait, a new Geekbench listing shows the global OnePlus 11 variant bearing the CPH2451 model number. For reference, the already announced Chinese OP 11 sports the PBH110 identifier in certifications though both devices come equipped with the same Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chipset and up to 16GB RAM.

Watch the global OnePlus 11 and 11R launch

OnePlus is having an event today, announcing half a dozen products, including the global arrival of the OnePlus 11 flagship and the official unveiling of the OnePlus 11R.

The launch is scheduled to begin at 14:00 GMT/15:00 CET/19:30 CET/9 AM EST. It will be livestreamed on YouTube, and you can tune in from the video below.

They may also announce the Oneplus Pad (Tablet) device as well. I think its good they not looking at launching a Pro model for this device - you got the top of the range and then the R which is the cheaper one.

The OnePlus 11 and Buds Pro 2 are now globally available

The OnePlus 11 and the OnePlus Buds Pro 2 started their global journey today. The pair was unveiled in China back on January 4, so there are no surprises when it comes to their hardware, but let's do them over, just in case.

The OnePlus 11 is the company's full-on flagship, now that the Pro monicker has been dropped. It features a 6.7-inch 1440x3216px Fluid AMOLED LTPO3 display with with adaptive 120Hz refresh rate, and a peak brightness of 1300 nits.

There's a 16MP selfie camera on the front. On the back, the OnePlus 11 has a 50MP f/1.8 24mm main camera (IMX890 - 1/1.56"), a 32MP f/2.0 48mm 2x zoom camera (IMX709 - 1/1.56"), and a 48MP 115-degree FoV f/2.2 ultrawide unit with autofocus and macro capabilities (IMX581 - 1/2.0").

The cameras come with the 3rd generation of Hasselblad Camera for Mobile tuning. It adds perks like the new Natural Color Calibration with Hasselblad, which uses a 13-channel multi-spectral sensor to identify light and color, as well as Hasselblad Portrait Mode, and OnePlus' own TurboRAW HDR.

As much as I like Oneplus and as good as the 11 is, I would take a Xiaomi 13 Pro over it... similar price point...

Seeing a lot of very good reviews for the ear buds Pro 2! $179 though? I just picked up a pair of sennheiser tw-3's for under $200....

A lot of stiff competition in that price range but the general concensus so far, is that they well worth it.

OnePlus finally settles it: the OnePlus 11 is IP64 rated in all markets

Today we've finally received official confirmation from OnePlus that the OnePlus 11 is rated IP64 for dust and splash resistance in all markets in which it's being offered.

According to the definitions in the IP code, that means the phone is "dust tight", with complete protection against dust particles entering. It's also resistant to water splashes from any direction. That, however, is less water resistance than a lot of its competitors offer - it's not uncommon to see phones being protected from immersion in water, and not just splashing. Even at lower price points than the OnePlus 11's, if we consider Samsung's Galaxy A series handsets.

If you're wondering why we're writing an entire post about this, that's because there was a lot of confusion about the IP rating subject yesterday. Media outlets based in the US seem to have received the information about the IP rating in advance of the global launch for the OnePlus 11. Many other media companies based elsewhere did not, however, and that included us.

It's not at all out of the ordinary for Chinese smartphones to not have any sort of IP rating so initially we didn't think much of it, but then as every outlet that had been sent a OnePlus 11 unit weeks ago published a review once the launch event was over, it became apparent that some were told about the IP64 rating, and some weren't. We immediately reached out to OnePlus for comment, and it took until today to hear back.
