I want to buy the Oneplus 3T and as usual South Africa lags behind on the most latest smartphones. I would like to buy it from this site:
https://www.connecteddevices.co.za/products/oneplus-3t-dual-sim-64gb-gunmetal-special-import
which is selling it for R8500 which I believe is a reasonable price. It seems this company will also deal with customs charges etc.

I would like to know if this site is trustworthy and if the model will be compatible with the South African LTE (Cell C, Vodacom).

Thanks!

Met a person recently bought it from Oppomart. All incl was around 7800.

Oppomart looks like an international site. I heard that importing goods into South Africa is not smooth and often it can take months before receiving your product. connecteddevices.co.za is a south african site and deals with importing cellphones(they deal with taxes/imports etc) and they say it won't take longer than 10 days. I went to willmydevicework.com and found out that that the chinese/european models will work hear, but the north american model is not compatible for LTE signals hear.

Its an international site but they offer proper courier options. He got it in less then 7 days. As far I know I dont think the local guys have any added benefit like warranty support. Just thought would throw that out there.

Also the courier company will deal with taxes etc. Which is why i said final cost was about 7800.

Wil check oppo mart. I spoke to consultants from Connected devices.co.za, they said they offer 12 months warrenty.

Depends on the shipping method. Most do not use sea based shipping as it takes too long. By post it can take a few weeks. The big delay is with SA customs. They first have to decide whether it is worth stealing before the send it on. Items sent by courier generally attract duty, where as post is a 50/50 chance. The lower the value the less likely.

Those site that trade with a .co.za normally charge a lot more and catch you by paying the duty. On dx you will pay R6800 but will take upto 6 weeks. On geekbuying it will be just R6800 with DHL.

Never had customs 'steal' an item. It may take some time, but all my items have always cleared.

Have you ordered from ConnectedDevices yet? Sent an email to them a couple of days back also asking about the OnePlus 3T but still no reply. I'm hoping to hear from them this week. Do you think they will be safe to order from? R9.5k is a lot of cash to lose...

Hello,

In case you have not bought the phone yet, I recommend checking the OnePlus 3T on GearBest, it's currently on a special for around $459 for the 6+64 model.

My friends have bought quite a few things from GearBest including smartphones and have used the 'Expedited Shipping' option that usually costs between $30-40. It always takes a maximum of 7-10 days to get to us.

Also their 'Expedited Shipping' is done through DHL, and DHL contacts you once your parcel is here and informs you how much customs you have to pay.

In one instance my friend paid R300 for a Xiaomi Mi5 and a few other cases and cables [He paid a total of around $360 at GearBest].

In a second instance, a friend bought 4 phones, gamepad controllers, mice, earphones, all to a total of around $900, it took like 8 days to get here and he paid only R600 in custom fees.

DHL works customs very fast and clears products quickly.

Also, GearBest might require a proof of residence and other similar documents once you've placed your order. I think it's to do with some regulations in China, not very sure though but nothing too troubling.

Hope this helps a lot.

Good luck!

I think they only do that if you pay with credit card. It's to safeguard them from fraudulent reversals.

They never asked me for documentation (I use PayPal).

Hi guys,

I've also been thinking about buying the OnePlus 3T 64GB from ConnectedDevices for R8599.00 but then compared the pricing with Oppomart.com as suggested by phant1m. After much deliberation and research to ensure that I will be able to use LTE on the Vodacom network, I finally decided to buy it from Oppomart.com.

I bought the OnePlus 3T, the USB type-C port adaptor, a silicon case as well as the Dash Car Charger for under R8000. It was R7918.44 to be exact which included shipping of ($49.99) which was about R680.00.

From the research I've done I'm convinced that Oppomart sells the international model which will work (I'm 99.9% sure of it) on the Vodacom LTE network. Another concern of mine was whether the charger would be the South African standard but after reading some comments and answers on Oppomart, they ship the correct charger type depending on where you order from.

I placed the order this morning and will provide you with feedback once I've received the device.

Here's what i did: Bought the 3T in Germany from the Oneplus site, hence i should receive the EU Dash plug. Had it shipped with Aramex @ a cost of R195,00. Since there are no direct flights from Germany to SA, it shipped from Germany to UK, then to SA. Package is currently in JHB. Just waiting for custom charges if any (hope not), and then it should be shipped to me. Will keep you guys posted.

Bought from connected devices

I decided to buy from connected devices( R8399, was given R100 promo) because of their 1 year warranty and because they are based in SA.Also, I read so many complaints about oppomart. I ordered on 29th dec and today I received an email that its being handled by SA courier and got SA tracking number. They said its china model and I would get LTE for all networks. They do answer emails( I do agree they are not quick, but they take less than 48hrs), I also chatted live on their site. They also said they would deal with custom pay etc. Will give a feedback when I receive the product. I heard it requires international adapter, but will buy here after I get the product.

Whoever buys oneplus products must bear in mind the risk for repairs/replacements within SA will either be expensive or nearly impossible. And taking the phone back oversease will be too time consuming. That being said, I think it doesn't matter where you buy it as long as delivery is smooth into SA and product is authentic.
