Roughly two months from the public release of Oreo. It's not fair to compare the Oreo rollout by OnePlus to the beta release of Oreo on Pixel devices. My OP5 updated to Oreo sometime in November, and as I've mentioned I'm not a beta tester. The official release date of Oreo is late August, so OnePlus was pretty damn snappy.
By contrast, the S8 Oreo update only really rolled out properly at the start of March this year..
My motivation for buying the OP6's wasn't purely financial in nature though. I think it's a case of once you go OnePlus you just can't switch to something else. The way their phones bring vanilla Android, superb battery life, a premium feeling experience etc. altogether isn't done by many, if any, other manufacturers. I have friends and family with flagship iPhones, Huaweis, Samsungs etc. and I've never felt a moment's temptation to buy one after playing around with them for a while. OnePlus devices are just so lightning fast.
That is quite fast, and a lot better than Samsung, for sure.
Still slow, though. It's not unique to OP, of course. The whole Android ecosystem struggles with it.
Fully agree with your earlier post about Samsung, too, btw.
This is the thing for me, i don't think i could ever go back to the ugly skinned, bloated versions of android the other manufacturers make.
OxygenOS is just such a great experience. Enough customization to keep you happy and still keeps the minimalistic feel while being blazing fast.
I guess my only hope would be to get a Pixel, but pixel 3 would have to pretty damn good to pry the 1+ out of my hands, not the abomination the Pixel2 was (bar the camera).
You must enjoy Bryn, i think you gonna love it, its gonna be a great phone!
Well Google is well aware of the issue, and that's what Project Treble in Oreo aims to help a lot with. Updates going forward are supposed to be much easier for manufacturers. The only problem is Treble is only part of Android devices that ship with Oreo, and not the ones merely updated to it (and obviously irrelevant to devices that never get Oreo). It's not a technical impossibility, but it seems like basically no one is interested in wasting their time bringing Treble to old devices.
Good review. He likes it a lot except not blown away by the camera. I think the camera is better than he's giving it credit for.MKBHD's full review:

Now why you gotta spoil my weekend. Snap.I have no clue if things have changed, but based on my experience importing OnePlus Ones this is what you might be in for:
14% import duty on everything but shipping: $623.90/R7803.79 x 14% = R1092.53
15% VAT on new total: (R1092.53+R7803.79=) R8896.32 x 15% = R1334.45
Consignment fee from DHL: R200 (could be more, but being conservative)
Total fees: R2626.98
Added to R8693.11 ($695), your grand total might be around R11 320.09.
OnePlus has never been known to have a great camera, however the OP6 is finally the first OnePlus device that has been able to compete with other flagships camera wise. That in itself is an achievement.
The reason I stick to OnePlus is due to their unlocked bootloader and continual support for the modding community. I have an addiction to flashing phones.
Oxygen OS is probably the best Android skin out there, but there is always a plethora of custom ROMs available to keep your device up to date with the latest version of Android, with every possible modification you could want.
Not sure if I should go for the 6, wait for the 6T or the 7. My OP3T is still rocking with the latest Android 8.1.![]()

Sorry man. Importing cellphones is no joke. I've only bought subsequent OnePlus devices when family could bring it into the country for me.
I have an acquaintance who regularly imports products from China for a building supply business he owns. He's often told me if there's anything I want from China, to let him know. I could possibly land a 6 at around R7500 all in, 128gb... only drawbacks are 1.) it usually takes months for shipments to arrive 2.) I don't like asking favours of acquaintances 3.) warranty claim might be challenging if the phone needed to be returned...
Bryn I assume your 6 is the A6003 model?
I wouldn't import a Chinese OP6. I'm sure I recall a reviewer mentioning that they come with quite different firmware. And yeah, if it's annoying sending a device for repairs to Europe or the US, it must be way, way worse sending to China. For all you know the email/telephonic correspondence will be in Mandarin.
If you're going to be really careful and put a good case on the device, then maybe it's worth it anyway. Even if the firmware is messed up you can always flash the normal firmware.
Not sure what the model number is. Haven't looked up such info. Usually only find out when I have the device in my hands.
