OnePlus One - $300 killer Android phone

What would the point be in paying that much more for something you don't need?

$50 for 48Gb more is an absolute bargain and you would be stupid not to take the opportunity, since the phone does not have a SD card slot. It's worth it imo, comparing it to other companies, cough, Apple, who charges you a $100 more for just a 16Gb increment! Ludicrous.

Because it's insane value for money, and because it's likely you'll store much more stuff when you're able to.

I wouldn't. I've got a 32gb phone at the moment, with 25GB usable space. Sitting on 20.5GB free. I haven't 'held back' at all, to conserve space.

But yeah, it's a pretty decent jump if one wants more. Would be silly to go for the 16GB in that sense.

That price difference is about the same for most phones these days, regarding 16/32/64GB.

No other company will give you 48GB for $50. As mentioned, it's usually 16GB for $100.

I don't think your mobile habits are indicative of normal habits. Most people use their phones as music players and download a few gigs of apps. Just those two can account for a large amount of storage space. Capturing HD and 4K video uses up a lot of space too.

Can't really agree with your there. Most phones charge around a R1000 more for a 16Gb increment. The only manufacturer that doesn't is Google, with the Nexus range.

I'm also sure that if you really wanted too, you should be able to fill the gap quite quickly, with music, HD recorded video etc. That space on the One Plus is going to be worth it, since it van record 4k.

Yeah, edited my post.

Sure, just saying I wouldn't fill up the space just cos I had it. Others might, naturally.

Why on earth would you want the 16GB version? It's only $50 cheaper and has 48GB less storage. Demand for the 16GB model is so low I think I read that OnePlus isn't producing it anymore.

And no, I don't have any invites unfortunately.

Well that just makes this all the more urgent!

Some people need 64GB others don't, personal preference no matter how good a deal it is

Not much for us to say that hasn't already been said. I got my invite from a friend.

I'll throw out some points in lieu of a review though:

- Build quality is outstanding
- 64GB internal storage is awesome
- Cyanogenmod 11s is by far the best Android firmware I've ever used (and I ran CM 11 on my S3)
- The 3100mAh battery gives superhuman battery life. It's almost impossible to kill the battery in a day.
- Camera is pretty good, as is 4K video
- The sandstone back feels great and doesn't show fingerprints
- The 5.5" screen is big and vibrant and imo way nicer than the more common 5" screen size
- 3GB of RAM is a big deal. Basically means you don't have to concern yourself with background processes taking up too much memory.
- The phone almost never lags. The Snapdragon 801 is a beast.
- The capacitive off-screen navigation buttons are a nice option, but I've come to prefer on-screen buttons

Congrats! Finally another 1+ owner. I assume it's the Sandstone Black version? How are you getting your phone to SA?
Correct 64GB of course!
It's coming over from the US in the diplomatic pouch :)

I just signed up to their forum in like May and posted a couple things.
I had all but given up then got the invite.

Anybody got an invite for me ;)

Invites are being given out less and less frequently for some reason. Either OnePlus is having serious manufacturing issues (ie. Oppo not giving them as much of their spare capacity as before) or they're gearing up for a full public launch.

Either way, the majority of people who are given invites have friends and family in line for them.
