Yeah, proper stuff (leather). Mine has aged/darkened beautifully, and it still smells of leather.

That's why I went with Saddle Brown as it really wears nicely, just like brown leather shoes, bags, etc.

Any bump or nail scratch etc. simply buffs out. I'm also careful with my stuff. Silicone is better if you aren't.

But Saddle Brown and black are the most forgiving it would seem.

The original Apple leather cases are seriously good, priced through the roof though, had the R1400 iPad Smart case really well made and surprised to find it was genuine leather in these days of ubiquitous pleather.
