Online glasses ordering

I lost my multifocals during a small skirmish. So I have a prescription, but I can't make head or tail of it. Can I give it to ZenniOptical, and will they be able to understand it well enough to make me a pair of specs?

You'll need a pupillary distance measurement...

But yeah, that looks like it should do it.

I have an astigmatism so mine includes an axis value too.

PD can be measured at home if you have someone to help

Yep, I was thinking of using this

Which lens enhancement is suitable for driving and night and in the afternoon looking at the sun. Ideally this should be sorted by ARC and polarized lens but this would mean I hv to get two pair. So how which is suitable for 1 pair that I can use for both situations.

I did, got them back in May, very good quality, best lenses in a long time. I was sceptical but very surprised, how they turned out.

Going to be hard pressed to go to torga and specsavers again.
Where did you purchase from? Smartbuy or Zenni

Dreading the quote Classic Eyes are going to give me on my next prescription. Previous was around R9,000 and medical aid as always laughs as they put the phone down.

Smart Buy Glasses seems too good to be true, but might give it a shot. But again, you can get great frames at like R2200 and they include a prescription, blue light blocker, UV and anti-scratch how???

You all are tempting me to try Zenni... Did a full check with a bunch of addons and such and still around $87 only, makes me really annoyed that I have been paying like R8k for glasses locally for years.

Is $87 total cost landed in SA?

Excluding the shipping and import duties. Have imported many things before so my guess would be:

R1281 ($87) - Glasses, Frames, Premium lenses with anti-fog and other options + clip-on sunglass lenses
R662.92 ($45) - Shipping
R320.25 - Import Duties
TOTAL = R2264,17 (Please note this is 100% a guess on previous import duties and shipping costs)

So probably around R2200 - R2800 for the total cost which is still way under the R4800 from Spec savers and the R9200 from Classic Eyes. But I am still checking out SmartBuyGlasses as they seem like a great middle ground.

My only issue with both is not actually getting to try on the glasses (eyes basically) before buying. So you just have to hope the frame is what you like and you are 100% sure on the fit and sizing.

That shipping is from which company, wouldn't aramex or myus be cheaper?

That's via MyUS which tends to use DHL to ZA and only DHL Express will get here through customs and not go the post office route. Haven't looked at other options like Aramex Global and stuff, but they all tend to be in the $45 to $75 range even for small items.

Could be a job for @ScottulusMaximus

I have something similar to these as my everyday wear. The lack of a frame is great since you don't get glare or occlusion from lights at night - plus it's coated. Good quality glass optics - I hate the plastic because it scartches so easily.

If you guys keep sy in, soon the techs and receptionist working at the optometrists would also order their glasses there as the town doesn't have an optometrists anymore. But that glasses is a money making machine I fully agree. Same as doctors, check your BP, OK here is your 6 months script again, OKbye, that will be R800. This after making an appointment for 10am and only getting seen at like 11 at the earliest.

A pair of spectacle in SA is bloody more expensive than an LCD TV. Someone needs to **** these guys left right and center
Business is business and I can understand them having their markups and everything in between. But it has been a wake-up call for my circle of friends and family when we went to get glasses from our regulars at Classic Eyes and saw the quote of like R9,500. That is without some of the fancy stuff but still.

Even trying to push the price up as much as possible on Zenni, it came out to around R1200. At that price, you could say R3000 for the full import fee and still save R6500 compared to Classic Eyes. But I guess that is premium for you, Spec-Savers is around R4400 which isn't bad but still compared to the same ones from Zenni for R1281. It's crazy to think they are making around 200%+ on every sale.

Buuutttttt... guess that's the cost of having a walk-in-store and staff nowadays for just selling glasses that people only get once every year or two.

DHL Express the best (most efficient and quickest) in my experience.
