Online glasses ordering

I have something similar to these as my everyday wear. The lack of a frame is great since you don't get glare or occlusion from lights at night - plus it's coated. Good quality glass optics - I hate the plastic because it scartches so easily.

Love it. Any link to it?

DHL Express the best (most efgicient and quickest) in my experience.
We tend to ONLY use DHL Express. But have had times where the people overseas don't understand the difference and poof. Post office.

Which Indian online shop did you use?
Last week I was checking to put new glasses on the frames I have for myopia and astigmatism and the quotes are as below in order:

Below is the price for only lens. No frames nothing....

1. Vision Works Hilux: 8064
2. Vision Works Maxxee: 5026
3. Global Eyes: 5600, cheapest lens is 1900 for a pair
4. Spec Savers Estelux: 1971
5. EYESENTIALS: 1468

Includes frames
1.6 Optique prev: 4399
1.67 Stock HMC 3499

I ordered from India 2 frames with high index 1.74 blue coating, hard coating.....bla bla bla all bells and whistles and I got the spectacles delivered to my friends house in 2 days of ordering. When someone will be coming here from India it will come to me. The 2 pair of frames with lens costed me around ZAR 900.

A pair of spectacle in SA is bloody more expensive than an LCD TV. Someone needs to **** these guys left right and center

if you have someone in USA Singapore UAE or India, get it delivered there and then bring it here via DHL or any reliable courier, it will still be cheaper than buying locally in South Africa.

For the PD i used an app on my ipad called eye measurement...i hope it's accurate.
planning on ordering from Zenni in the next few days.

My glasses came to JHB 3 weeks ago. Pretty happy in terms of what I paid and what I got.
who did you use?
i am actually leading toward smartbuyglasses now...got branded glasses

Did you order from Zenni?
What was the total time from order to delivery?
Did you use a fowarding service for delivery? If so which service?
Was there any extra costs prior to delivery - customs taxes/duties?

Hi

I ordered from Zenni using MyUS forwarding.

Timeline:
Ordered from Zenni: 23 Sept
Delivered to MyUS: 7 Oct
Shipped from MyUS: 12 Oct
Delivered to Jhb: 18 Oct

Mire details on first page of this thread. Would definitely recommend Zennie

Ok so so far i can't decide between Zenni and smartbuyglasses.

smartbuyglasses have the nicer, fancier Nike frame....
  • Lens Index: Arise Collective Clarity 8K 1.67
  • Transition: Transitions® XTRActive® - Grey
For about R5100

With Zenni i get also nice glasses, not branded, for $200, but i can get a protector for them + engraving.

Lens1.67 Photochromic Transitions® - Gray
AR Anti-Reflection CoatingOleophobic (premium oil and fingerprint resistant) Anti-Reflective Coating

In term of the lenses are they the same or very similar at least?

What i can also do is remove Photochromic Transitions from the Zenni one, and buy both.

Zenni one will drop to about $80 (65 with coupon)

Ok i ordered from Zenni AND smartbuyglasses, lets see
Keep us updated. Let us know your experience with both and the total costs involved including customs and VAT charges etc. Are you using a fowarding service for delivery? If so, which service?

Will do.
I am using aramex global shopper, can't say i am too happy with them though, but lets see

Ordered from eyebuydirect, shipping via aramex global shopper. Still waiting only paid R269 for shipping so far I haven't received any customs invoices. I went with eyebuydirect cause apparently zenni enhancement coating don't last that long and are of poor quality. I took two cheap frames 1 with anti scratch and reflective coating and the other with anti scratch and reflecting coating plus polarized lenses. Total was $81 used my welcome discount and paid $61.

      Order received.
*2 days after placing my order I decided to change one frame, maybe that is why they took a bit longer to be shipped.

So my girlfriend placed her order through normal specs savers, I created a little chart to see who is quickest....

I am actually trying to change from Transitions XTRActive to Transitions Gen8, i think i made a mistake by getting the XTRActive ....lets see.

It would be better to do a cost analysis between the above.
Specsavers will probably be the quickest.
It would be nice to know what the cost comparison between the lenses are - local VS import
Maybe get a quote from specsavers for the lenses, with a frame that is simlar prices to the ones you got from Zenni/SmartBuy.
Once your specs arrives, then you can compare the pricing on the landed cost between the two

Specs savers is double...

Specs savers are more then double the price....(specs savers was about R10500, and smartbuy under R5000).
I think i am also getting better lenses (1.67 from smartbuy vs 1.6 from specs savers).

smartbuy managed to change my lenses from xtractive to gen 8 (Gen 8 is better for every day use, as it is 100% clear indoor, Xtra will have a slight tint indoor, but is better for driving), i was also refunded R420 for the change, however it will probably delay the order a bit.

Zeni's status is: ( Manufactured/En Route to Distribution Center )
Specs savers: Still quite.

Cool. I am also considering my options at the moment.
eyebuydirect has some specials currently. They also have some good designer brands, although not as great as SmartBuy
Zenni has some nice styles at very reasonable prices.
