Online glasses ordering

Would the details on my contact lenses boxes suffice for prescription details, or would I have to go through the optometrist?

The details on the box are your actual script that is (supposed to be) converted to a C/L script as the distance between the lens and your eye differs with C/L vs specs. Additionally, contact lenses are made in bulk, so your converted script might be -1.00 -0.25 x 103, but since there are no ...x 103 C/L, they just give you -100 -0.25 x 100.

Do you wear toric lenses/have astigmatism (-1.00 -0.25 x 100) or sphere (-1.00)?

Zenni arrived, 28 days.
Took a bit longer then expected and more expensive (over R500 for shipping to SA + VAT), but so far i am impressed.

Well packed, box, and a wipe cloth (smartbuy didn't include one), and 4 PD measurement rulers.
I will share some photos soon.

By the way , i noticed my smartbuy glasses are not 100% straight (if i put them on a flat surface the one handle is a few cm up, so i guess i will have to get it fixed).

Remember that this^ is not an accurate way to see if your glasses are skew, you need to turn the frame upside down. And even then, I have never seen a face where the two ears (where the glasses rests), are on the same level. If you have a higher script or wear multifocals, proper alignment (with your face, not a table) becomes critical for optimal vision:

We mark up the lens and then align the marked dots and lines above with your pupils etc. and then adjust the frame to remain there, by various tweaks to the nosepads and frame, including making the frame more skew, if it comes to that.

Update: I might as well have ordered my specs from a blind bat online. They sent the frame in the wrong colour. What a downer.

It was ordered correctly by the branch, its the lab that didn't check SKU's and just picked what they would like to send.

Please elaborate? Where did you buy from?
Torga, the optician was amazing the staff there were amazing. They ordered the correct SKU which is a Blue metallic frame with black ear pieces, but they sent a black frame with blue ear pieces.

but with blue where this one is grey.

I'm so depressed about this because I didn't want this model but the colour won me over. I just don't understand how the lab tech didn't check SKU especially when they have two models that are black and blue.

The black isn't bad, I would love it with polarised lenses but the blue is perfect with the clear lenses.
The branch has the blue demo model in store which they can change the lenses over on Monday, but I don't know how old it is, can't see if it has scratches etc.

The staff at the branch was very accommodating and allowed me to keep the black pair until Monday when the optician can make sure the lenses fit properly in the demo frame and that just feels like I've been two-timed or something.

This was me putting the unwanted spectacles on and walking out of the store this morning:

Damn! The person that was picking your frames was probably dyslexic

While waiting for my Zenni order i think i made a mistake,
should have gotten polarized lenses, might do another order.
Is polarized worthwhile. I thought it only lasts 2 years before it fades away

You are thinking about photochromics?
I don't know much about glasses but would like to order online but I am afraid I will buy something that is worthless if I buy the wrong option.

I bought multifocals from Spec Savers this yearn. Was around R7K in total.
First time I ever bought multifocals and it is horrendous. Unusable for computer. Gives me extreme headaches almost immediately. Can't read the full width unless looking in the middle of the screen. Got single focals for computer as replacement. It has the standard blue blocker.

Will polarized help for computer use? Is there any other investment you guys can make that you guys found useful for using computer screen the whole day?

No, polarized is sunglasses, dark lenses.

The coatings are for blocking bluelight. These have UV420 for blocking blue light and the iridio coatings for hydrophobic antistatic properties.

Does anyone know if the different types of glass at smartbuyglasses is worthwhile? The options are so confusing for a glasses noob like me. I have astigmatism in my right eye but my left eye is good

I just went with the "8k" that was also recommended....very happy with my glasses.
The only difference I see with 8K is the thinner lens so in my logic should it not break easier if you drop it?

Update: The local Torga branch has gone above and beyond to get this sorted for me. They will be sending a brand new frame this week.

Whoop whoop
