Excellent, Loooong overdue however I wonder what happens in the case of branded phones - i.e. a Vodacom N70 with vLive branded software and a vanilla N70 from MTN,CC or VM.

Edit: ahh - answered my own question via the FAQ:
24. Can I update my phone with different software?
No, the type of software cannot be changed. If you have operator-specific software, then the update you receive will be for that same operator software.
Neither update over-the-air or via PC can be used to change the operator's firmware version to the generic Nokia firmware version.

Uhh - thats what it says -
The Sony Ericsson update service also works like that - did an update of my V800 and it retained the vLive software. That's why you leave the sim card in - probably for it to check your network and give you the appropriate network branded software.I am just wondering if this update service will be compatible to SA networks seeing as its on the UK Nokia site - might just get a message saying 'Your phone is not upgradable via this service'.
Anyone want to try it tonight??

Just did my N70, quite a painless process.
It is a Vodafone branded handset and when you are finished updating the FM, everything reverts back to how it comes out of the box, VLive theme the lot. Even with the 3 new sms' in the inbox.
I did a backup before the FM update and when I restored after, everything was back to the way I had it, background, installed apps everything.

Bleh, my backup didn't work properly... Had to revert to one that I did in April

I tried it with my 6680. I've got version 4 firmware, Googling shows there's a version 6 out already, but the programme said I have the latest firmware(?)

adsl3g, it installed v5.0609.2.0.1 01-03-06 RM84, which is the latest apparently.

I actually foned the VodaCare shop in eastgate and asked about the upgrade, I also asked the chap if there was anyway I could do it online at all, download the drivers or something. He said theres no way at all and Nokia probably wont introduce the option.
How long should I wait until I fone him back...?

Thanks - just wanted to check - there is a new version out v5.0611.something but i assume it has not been adapted to vodafone live software. The changes in that version is very network specific thou - does not really fix any glaring issues on the N70.
EDIT: I would like to see an update for the 6600 but I doubt if it will ever be listed as it uses an old type cable which is not obtainable easily.

One fix I'd love to see is that if the keypad is locked and the camera slide opens, it doesn't activate the camera. I thought that was what "Camera behaviour in relation to keypad lock improved" was supposed to do, but apparently not.
